Savage ichool, Miss Golden had cnougl credits at the end of lasl year to graduate.

But, the Allegany County Board of Education requires fou.i years of English credit for graduation, so Miss Golden has been cracking the books at home in order to obtain her diploma. From August 2 until October 27 Miss Golden was bedfast. But on the 27th of October the pretty El lerslie girl was advanced to a wheelchair, and since then has been very Less than three weeks after advancing to the wheelchair phase, Miss Golden went outdoors for the first time. Like most girls she is a movie fan, so on her' first trip outside. Mary Louise came to Cum berland to see the famous movie star, Aldo Kay, who was making a personal appearance at the Strand Theatre.

Mobbed by a crowd of fansi Ray noticed Miss Golden in the background, moved through the crowd and sat on a jstep to chat with her. The following day Miss Golden attended the Thanksgiving dinner and program at Mt. Savage School, and since then has attended a number of school and birthday parties in the area. I Miss Golden received her braces from the Allegany County League ifor Crippled Children last week and hopes that she will progress I enough to be able to attend her 'Senior Prom in May. She is administered physical therapy weekly by the League for Crippled jChildrqn which has cared for her since her illness began.

Miss Golden feels that she is learning a great deal by her home courses. Mrs. Mather has been teaching her English, math, history and other senior. class subjects, and on the side has taught her to knit and do needle work. Besides this she has a wonderful opportunity to read.

Since September she has completed five of Shakespeare's plays, and read a number of other books. Miss Golden lives a normal' life, even to the extent of helping her mother with the dishes, ironing and doing average house work. The only trouble she had at home is with her nine-year-old brother, Clarence, who likes to ride her wheelchair. Mary Louise claims the younger Golden is the "Hot Rod" 01' the wheelchair. Miss Golden hopes to get accustomed to her braces as soon as possible so she'll be able to attend rehearsals of the Senior Choir of II Mt.
