E7 Daily Press, Thursday, Aug. 7, 1986 Body found at Boy George's identified cake makeup, underwent treatment for heroin addiction last month and has since been campaigning against drug In a radio interview Tuesday night, Boy George said he thought heroin would be easy to control, but quickly found "it's the boss." Boy George rose to fame in the early 1980s as lead singer of the Culture Club band, but his popularity had been on the wane for the past two years. His string of hit singles included "Do You really Want to Hurt Me" and "Karma Chameleon." statement to police but said no one had yet been formally questioned at a police station. Later, O'Dowd spent three hours with Boy George at the 25-year-old singer's other house in north London. "It's a terrible nightmare," O'Dowd told reporters as he left.

"When is this all going to end? I feel so bad." Boy George was convicted July 20 of possessing an unspecified amount of heroin and fined the equivalent of $370. The singer, noted for his flowing gowns, lipstick and pan man said that neither drugs nor drug paraphernalia were found near the body, and said there was no evidence "to suggest violence or criminal activity." The songwriter's body was discovered at about 5:30 a.m. by Boy George's brother, Kevin 0'-Dowd, 26, who was staying in the house, Jordan said. O'Dowd was charged last month with supplying heroin to the singer and is now free on bail. The body was lying on the floor of the living room, the police spokesman said.

He said O'Dowd, who called police, was the only other person staying at Boy George's house, a rambling Gothic-style mansion in north London's fashionable Hampstead district. Police said O'Dowd, an unemployed musician, had given a Independent WTVZ planning to carry Joan Rivers show By HENRY EDGAR Staff Writer Tidewater television audiences will be able to join the rest of the country in making a choice between Johnny Carson and Joan Rivers this fall. The TVX Broadcast Group, owners of WTVZ (Channel 33), has signed an affiliation agreement with the new Fox Broadcasting Company, producers of 'Late Night With Joan Rivers," an hour-long program to air from 11 p.m. to midnight Monday through Friday beginning in October. In addition to the Joan Rivers show, the TVX Broadcast Group also will telecast other Fox programs, to include two full nights of prime time beginning in March.

Already set for these two nights are "Jump Street Chapel," an hour-long action adventure series from Stephen Cannell, creator of "A-Team," "Riptide" and "Hunter," and "Down and Out in Beverly Hills," based on the hit movie. "I expect Fox Broadcasting to have a dramatic impact on our industry," says Tim McDonald, TVX president. "They are creating a new source of program production at the the highest level of entertainment quality." By BEN DOBBIN Associated Press Writer LONDON (AP) Police said an American songwriter was found dead Wednesday in a London mansion owned by pop singer Boy George, who pleaded guilty last week to heroin possession. Boy George was not at the house when the body was found shortly before dawn, and Scotland Yard spokesman Nick Jordan said the singer "was not involved at all." Police identified the dead man as Michael Rudetsky, 27, of New York, who had flown to London Tuesday to work with the flamboyant British singer, whose real name is George 0'-Dowd. Rudetsky was described as a composer and keyboard player.

"He was my friend," Boy George said in brief reply to reporters' questions as he left his other London home. "It is not being treated as a suspicious death," said Jordan, who would not rule out the possibility of a drug overdose. By returning Keeshan and "Captain Kangaroo" to the 8 a.m. weekday slot, the network would offer an alternative to its competitors. It also would send a clear signal to viewers and competitors that children's programming is vital.

Over the past 10 or 15 years, the commercial networks have almost ignored their responsibilities to the very young. Sloppy cartoons, frequently tied in with toy lines, pass for children's programming most of the time. When the networks do churn out a special for kids, it gen erally aims at the junior high school crowd, not the tots. It's been left up to PBS to furnish any kind of decent fare for preschoolers on a day-to-day basis. CBS can change all that and save money, too.

An hour of "Captain Kangaroo" can't cost any more than an hour of some early morning star parade, especially since Keeshan doesn't command the kind of money the overpriced anchors have received. A wide array of talent from pudgy Charles Kuralt to svelte Phyllis George has occupied the anchor chairs, but no one has succeeded in rallying the program out of third place. The latest hopefuls, Maria Shriver and Forrest Sawyer, said goodbye Friday. They're being replaced with rotating anchors until January, when a new program produced by CBS Entertainment, but with input from CBS News, will premiere. Regardless of the form the new CBS show takes, it will be competing for the same adult audience already being served by "Today" and "Good Morning America."
