GraBt jin4 Secretary FlMli. General Grant and Senator Conkling the special "WaeliiDgton correspondent of tlie Cincinnati Enquirer, in cUapat-Tb dated December 2, to declared in fayoroi Secretary Fish for General Grant in conver- M.tion -with friend one last week said: I hVva trodden on too many corne to strong candidate now, und "will bide my time. Secretary Fisn is my choice and I will do all I can to secure his nomination and election." Per contra, a special dispatch to the Orleans Picayune, dated December 21, "The publication ol the fact that the President has the evidence in his hands of Secretary Fish's duplicity, for resignation will be de- great excitement in cffl cial circles. It is plainly evident that Fish (lards in the way. in respect to Cuban matters, and the President, intending retnovi the way by publishing evidences of personal disloyalty to him, and will allege that ai cnse." A diapatch from Washington to the Cincinnati Coniaurdal, dated December 24, tits above, and nctds further.

Gentlemen who are well informed with regard, io the relations between the Prea- i drat and Sscrstaij Fish, assert that the PrendflDt hao had in his hand since the Virginins aur eworn documentary evidence to establish the fact that Mr. Fian had, evar sines I860, inspired numerous newspaper articleii on our affairs with foreign" nations, which, while they have been unsparing in criticism and abuse of the have also been filled with prttise of the Secretary. These articles are wid to have been written for the moat part by Sidney Webster, Mr. Fish's who is the attorney of the Spanish government, and to have been printed in one of the most prominent Democratic of the country. It is also alleged that other evidence of Mr.

Fiah'o duplicity have been accumulating in the PresiaenVB hands, and that is merely.awaiting the proper Ume to punish the offonder. This is one of the chief reasons why tho early resignation of tht Secretary is confidently anticipated and another one is that tbe Secretary is believed to be the chief obstacle at present to tlie President's purpose to bring about a war with Spain in behall of Cuba. It would rppear that the relations ol the President and Secretary are somewhat mixed. Vmth ir AuolUrr Ola Texan. THE LATE JOHS D.
