A network executive, however, said that neither alternative is NBC said it will crank out at 'least one more Perry Mason mystery movie, The Case of the Wicked Wives. It will go into production next month in Denver, starring Paul Sorvino from Law Order as Frank Caruso, a close friend of Mason (the late Raymond Burr, who died two weeks ago). The Case of the Wicfced Wives will be produced by Dean Hargrove Productions and the Fred Silverman Co. in association with yiacom Productions, the same team that turned out 26 Perry Mason movies starring Burr since 1985. The producers, knowing Burr was critically ill, worked out a deal with the estate of creator Erie Stanley Gardner (which holds the rights to the character) and NBC to do the movie.

Sources close to the producers indicate that if the Sorvino movie is successful the producers have the option to do at least one more movie as part of a series. Six Mason movies were original likely. Burr died Sept. 12 at the age of 76 after a long battle with cancer. He completed the Mystery Wheel's first movie, The Case of the Killer Kiss in August despite his illness.
