CENTRAL aORlDA C-4 The Orlando Sentinel, Thursday, February 17. 1994 CFLO Russell S. Hughes, supplier, dies at 92 seemed to cure Harry of asthma. Hughes Supply Co. has had a major role in Central Florida's development.

Its electrical and plumbing materials were used to build Orlando International Airport, Florida Hospital Orlando and many of the buildings at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom and Epcot Center. The company operates in Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi and Alabama. The company was started with $1,700 in family savings and a $10,000 bank loan. Two years later, during the Depression, Hughes kept the business afloat by selling electrical supplies from the back of a truck. The Hughes brothers turned the company over to Harry's son, David, in 1974.

He was 92. Hughes died of pneumonia at Haywood County Hospital in Waynes-ville, N.C., where he kept a home, said his son, Russell V. Hughes. Hughes and Harry, started HuShes Hughes Supply as an electrical contracting business in their family garage in 1928. The company now sells electrical, plumbing and other supplies and has more than 100 locations in seven states.

The only Orlando-based company to trade on the New York Stock Exchange, Hughes Supply Co. projected sales of $650 million for the fiscal year ending Jan. 31. "The community, particularly the business community, has lost one of the great Orlando pioneers," said W.M. Sanderlin, an Orlando real estate developer.

"He was a rugged entrepreneur." Hughes was born in Indiana. He quit school in his senior year to seek work in Ohio. He moved to Orlando at the age of 20 to join his mother, father and brother, who settled here because the climate owneroperator of Lauderhill Veterinary Clinic. Born in Ames, Iowa, he moved to Florida in 1963. A member of First Baptist Church of Ft.

Lauderdale, he also belonged to American Veterinary Medical Association, Association of Avian Veterinarians and American Association of Equine Practioners. He was an Army veteran of World War II. HEMPHILL 87, 151 E. Minnehaha Clermont, died Tuesday, Feb. 15. He was owner of a men's clothing business and an accountant. Born in Tarentum, he moved to Central Florida in 1993.

He attended South Lake Presbytenan Church, Clermont and was a member of YMCA, Kiwanis and Pollock Masonic Lodge 502, all in Pennsylvania. Survivors: son, Harry H. Ill, New York; daughter, Nancy H. Fullerton, Ocoee; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Kurfiss Funeral Chapel, Clermont.

RUBY ELIZABETH HOWE, 88, 107 Par Place, Lake Mary, died Tuesday, Feb. 15. Mrs. Howe was a retail merchant for Howe's Fashions Women's Apparel. Born in Webbville, she moved to Central Florida in 1954.

She was a member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church. Lucerne Circle 216, Orlando, died Monday, Feb. 14. Mr. Kunde was a retired customer service manager for Duquesne Light Pittsburgh. Born in Pittsburgh, he moved to Central Florida in 1987.

A member of Hebron United Presbyterian Church, he also was a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 45, both of Penn Hills, Pa. 16. Mr. Partin founded Partin's Jewelers in downtown Kissimmee in 1952. He also owned a ranch in Lake County. Born in Vance County, N.C., he moved to Kissimmee in 1946.

In 1977 he was voted outstanding conservation fanner in Lake County for accomplishments in the conservation of soil, water and related resources. A Baptist, he also was a life member of American Legion Makinson-Carson Post 10. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
