Both towns have been the centers of the lowest priced gas in the southwest for sev era! weeks.

Monday evening the local police court did a big business for a number of minor offenses. Many of these were for traffic violations, driving over stop signs without heeding them accounting for the greater number. Cory, who is president of the Washington Savings Loan League returned home last Thursday evening from a meeting of Its officers in Seattle, where they met with representatives of the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce. At the Port Angeles meeting the savings and loan men plan to organize a statewide campaign against the state 5 percent excise.tax on earnings of their associations. American Legion Spring Sale continued Saturday, April 19, at former Watson Floral Shop. Mr. and Mrs. Wm.

Urquhart, pioneers of Chehalis, returned Friday from a very vacation trip of over two months, spent mostly in Florida, at Plant City, the strawberry district. Mr. Urquhart had a fine time spreading the gospel of the beauties and resources of the northwest among the Florldans. They had a very restful and enjoyable vacation, but Mr. Urquhart says none of the country he visited compares with the northwest.

While in Florida they met Mr. and Mrs. John Kepner of San Francisco, formerly of Chehalis. He said Mr. Kepner's health is poor, and he plans to visit the Mayo Brothers.

Mr. Urquhart also says he saw Senator Jones in Washington, D. and the senator's health seems to be very good, and he Intends to visit his home state shortly. The price of gas, which had been 10 cents a gallon at local stations for several weeks past, was boosted to cents per Wednesday. This price is expected to be maintained for the present, at least, which would Indicate that the war is over for the present.

Clarence Lemieux enjoyed a motor trip Sunday afternoon to Springs. They found many people there. The trip going was made by way of Riffe and Morton; the return by the Mountain road, Roy, Yelm and Tenino. Roads were found to be in splendid condition. Miss Rose Whisler has been given the position in charge of the central phone at the courthouse.

She is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. E. L. Whisler of Ajlune.

She will assume her duties soon when Mrs. Chas. Sweet will quit. Mrs. Sweet is planning on leaving for California later.

Mrs. Sweet has filled the position very satisfactorily since the new courthouse was completed. A damage suit of Marie Stacy et al. vs. Joe F.

Kramer was filed yesterday In superior court, and announcement of settlement and satisfaction was also docketed. The case arose o.ut of a recent street collision in Chehalis between Mrs. Stacy's car and one of the Kramer trucks. Two appeals have been filed in court against the Washington Department of Labor and Industries. Plaintiffs are Wm.

A. Noll and Wm. Martin. All members and others interested in the new flying club now being formed are asked to be at a special meeting Thursday evening, April 24, at 7:30, at Quick Auto Chehalis. Roy Hubert, aviation instructor.

A display of quicksilver and the cinnabar ore from which it is extracted hag attracted considerable attention in the Chehalis Bee-Nugget display window the past week. The glass bowl of quicksilver has a value of about and a flask of quicksilver, same size as in the window display, represents a value of around $120, at present market prices. The ore and quicksilver are from the Consolidated Mercury Mining Company properties at Morton. At the annual meeting of the stockholders 'pf the Claquato Cemetery Association Monday -evening, a vote of thanks was tendered President N. B.

Coffman for his work in connection with the organization. W. A. Reynolds and E. M.

Sorensen were re-elected directors. The condition of the organization is in fine shape. Much shrubbery has been donated the place, and plans are under way to increase the water supply. Interest on the Irreducible fund Is now sufficient to take care of the expenses of the caretaker. Mr.

The Elks' dancing club will hole the last of the series of dances helc during the winter on Friday, April 25, in the Elks' club rooms. Guests are invited and welcome. I. W. Sims, an experienced salei- man, came from Seattle this week to join the sales staff of the Magrlni Motor Company, Rep and De Soto dealers. Mr. Sims was formerly located here and has many acquaintances in the territory.

Dennis Doyle, son of W. C. Doyle of Centralia, is mentioned on the honor roll at Washington State College for the first semester. Mr. Doyle is a senior at the college and is a member of the college track team.

He is taking a pharmacy course. A. L. Ribelin, manager of the local J. C.

Penney Company, will leave Sunday to attend the spring conven tion of the organization to be held in Portland. Headquarters of the convention will be at the Multnomah hotel and the meeting will continue for one week. Chief of Police Dave Mathes, Douglas Hart and Fred Smith, the last two with Sherman, Clay Company, of which Mr. Hart is local manager, made a hurried trip to Lewiston, over the week end, returning Monday. Mr.

Mathes visited in Dayton where his-wife has been visiting, and Mr. Hart drove to Lewiston to see his wife and new daughter. Tuesday a delegation of 35 members of the Chehalis, Centralia' and Ford's Prairie W. C. T.

U. organizations made an auto trip to Tacoma, where the White Shield Home was visited. Some supplies were taken and at noon a fine picnic dinner was enjoyed. There were seven cars in the caravan and two state highway patrolmen acted as escorts to the ladies. Conditions at the home were reported to be in a very satisfactory condition.

O. D. Olson Company, local contracting firm, has completed its job on the Riverside bridge at Chehalis. The structure is much more secure and safer as the result of the work that has been done. New guard rails on the sides, a new floor over the bridge and the Ipng trestle leading west, and the raising of the southwest side of the trestle to provide a "dish" toward the northeast side for safety of cars and other betterments were among the improvements made.
