PAGE 10 DAILY CITIZEN THURSDAY, APRIL 22, 1971 TODAY'S PARENTS Rotate Children's Toys To Prevent Confusion Cat Club Sets Sale Bazaar By PENNY PORTER Do you find yourself picking up toys that your preschooler has left all over his room as well as all over the house? Chances zre he has too many toys. Too many toys cause confusion in the mind of a young child. He becomes torn over which item to play with as he sits and stares at the same pile of hundreds of toys each day. Unfortunately, most parents put ALL the child's toys in a large toy box or on open shelves. Unfortunately, too, the toys usually are thrown haphazardly into their resting place and represent nothing other than disorder.

So, what could be more fun than adding to the disorder, thinks the bewildered child. The next thing you know, the toys are being thrown and dragged from one end of the house to the other.

Try rotating or temporarily hiding some of the toys. Leave only a given number on his shelf for no more than three or four days at a time. Store the others away in bright colored boxes. Label the boxes so you know what is in them. Putting toys away for a few weeks and then reproducing them is an age-old trick of nursery school teachers.

It is a good idea to have five different boxes of items. Then the child actually sees each toy only for a few days every two weeks. If you are lucky enough to have an extra chest of drawers, put it in his closet with the assortments of toys in each drawer. Label the drawers on the outside for your own convenience. Then, after three or four days, put away the toys with which he has been playing and produce another batch.

Toys take on a new face and stimulate the imagination when they are no longer im mersed in a hopeless heap. You will be delighted with your child's reaction. MAY DAY is said to have originated in the Spring Fertility Festivals of Egypt and India. WE have no special reason for celebrating it except for very joy we feel for Spring! MAY BASKETS when they are made of Sponge Cake and filled with Frosting Flowers are a pretty way to remember May Day.

Flowery ones used to be hung on doorknobs; these would.be delightful as favors at a child's MAY DAY party! BVM Bakery will have them for May Day, but they should be ordered ahead. MAY WINE both Imported and Domestic is made with Woodruff which gives it its intriguing flavor. Not for a Bacchanalian orgy, but for the simple pleasures of a picnic in the country, or in a flowery patio! BVM has both for a May Day toast. A natural ENERGY BUILDER is DEXTROSE, which BROADWAY Village Market has in powder form (like fine sugar). It comes from West Germany, and can give you a lift when you need it most.
