He leaves a family who misses him deeply for his charm, generosity, provocations, pranks, and endlessly embellished tales. Louis A. Smith, 91, a leader in the television advertising representative business, died on Thursday. Starting in the 50 and running for decades, Smith, the former Vice President for decades at Petry Television was a pioneer in the structure and formation of the nationalrep- resentation of television ad sales. Helater formed his own company working as a pioneer again by serving advertisers in the area of cooperative advertising campaigns and asa consultant for special projects with television groups such as Hubbard Broadcasting. Through Petry and his own office he occupied the Wrigley Building for nearly 50 years.

Smith was born in Rock Island, IL, and attended the University of Illinois. He was often noted as one of the longest season ticket holders among his beloved teams: the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Cubs. An avid golfer, he enjoyed Knollwood Club in Lake Forest holding one of its oldest memberships. He was active at Shore Acres and Onwentsia with his wife, Jean Smith. He is survived by his wife, Jean.

Smith had three children from his former marriage with Martha Ferrell Smith and is survived by son Norman Smith of Sandpoint, ID and son Ferrell Smith with his two grandsons of Simi Valley, CA; and daughter Louise Smith of Los Angeles, CA. Their later became Kepner-Tregoe, is headquartered in Princeton, NJ and conducts business in over 50 countries and 20 languages. Dr. Tregoe was born in San Francisco on December 23, 1927. He graduated from Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach, CA in 1945.

After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, he received his bachelor degree from Whittier College and a Ph.D. in sociology from Harvard University. He also received an honorary LL.D. from Whittier College, where he served as a trustee and a board member.
