The dearest soulmate and husband of Joan Ferdinand- Keleher; he also is remembered as loving stepfather of Benjamin (Dena) and Pamela (Mark Thomas) Ferdinand; adoring grandfather of Emma Lulu; kind brother of Jack (Dorothy); and sister Jean Keleher CSC; and sweet uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Patrick was an applied ethicist whose love of learning and curious nature allowed him to deeply touch others as a gifted teacher and as a compassionate and sensitive listener to those who sought his wise and thoughtful counsel. We remember him as a serious scholar with a wonderful sense of humor. He was a generous friend and gentle companion who gave his entire being to those he loved, reserving a soft spot in his heart for the creatures of the world, however small. The works of Aristotle and St. Thomas Aquinas, among hundreds of others, fill his home and office, and he spent his spare time translating classics from their original Latin text into English and back again.

Most recently, his diverse career included teaching for many years at North Park University, Concordia University River Forest, Loyola University Chicago and DePaul University as well as working as college relations manager at Illinois Bell, among other positions, and a staff associate at Catholic Adult Education Centers. Patrick was an architect of the 1988 Chicago Public School Reform Act as director of public policy for Chicago United, and he served as president and chief executive officer of TEACH America and The Focus Fund, both devoted to improving education. He earned degrees in ethics and political science from Loyola University Chicago and attended Holy Cross Seminary at Notre Dame.
