'Try to let me play the hand possible," they will say, and the ladles usually politely agree. In this way the men indicate that they think they are the strong half of partnership, and the women' indicate that they are born diplomats. No such instructions are issued when the female half of the partnership is an acknowledged expert. Equal partnership is the rule in the case of Mr. and Mrs.

Paul Hodge, of Abilene, winners of last years championship, The reason for their confidence In each other may be seen in the play of the hand shown today. Mrs. Hodge opened the queen of diamonds from the West hand. Declarer won in dummy with the king of diamonds, took the king of spades and then led the ace and queen of spades to see what the defenders would discard. They both discarded hearts, which didn't help declarer a bit.

South next led a club from the dummy, playnig the queen from his hand to force out the ace. Mrs. Hodge returned the jack of diamonds, knocking out dummy's ace. Declarer cashed the king of clubs and ruffed a club. he Jed another trump to the dummy, giving the opponents one more chance to discard.

Again Mrs. Hodge discarded a heart, and this time Mr. Hodge discarded a club. Finally, declarer led dummy's low diamond. East stepped up with the nine of Diamonds, and West was able to play the eight of diamonds, allowing East to hold the trick.

The whole point of declarer's extra rounds of trumps was to try to Induce the defenders to discard diamonds, so that West would have to win the third round of the suit. The plot failed, however, for both Mr. and Mrs. Hodge held their diamonds to allow East to win the third trick in that euit. Having won a trick with the nine of diamonds, East led a heart.

This enabled West to win the two heart tricks, defeating the contact. If West had won the third round of diamonds, she would have been obliged to lead hearts up to declarer's king, and South would have made his game contract. the difference." It is to bad to allow a child, or a family of them to behave so badly that people learn to avoid them. Training for good behavior must start when the children arc born and continue i they are self-sufficient. In the old days we called this training discipline and there Is no better term for It. Discipline of children means teaching that enables them to get along smoothly with other people. There are some things they do not do.

There are many things that they must do. That word "must" should take Its proper place In the home group. Once a child Icarrn its meaning he is well on the road to being a useful likable person. Nobody asks children to take on adult manners and attitudes. What we would like to see in young Americans the consideration for others that makes life easier and pleasnnter for everybody concerned.

He will probably wash the wound with green soap and water, then with a solution of an tlc such as one of the quaternary ammonium compounds. Vaccine Treatment 1 would suggest anti-rabies vaccine treatment be started Immediately, If the animal is believed known to have been rabid.

The virus reaches the brain through the nerves; thus, the closer the bite to the brain, the quicker symptoms of rabies will appear. On the average. It takes about eight to ten days before symptoms are noticed. However, the time may vary from ten days to several months. Of course the animal must ic apprehended, if at all possible, and kept under observation for fifteen days.

If. during this time. It shows a marked change In behavior, has a tendency to hide, a stumbling gait and begins to develop signs of paralysis, usually in the lower jaw. It is a good bet the animal Is rabid. It has been estimated by various sources that the chances of getting rabies from a dog bite are from one In 1.200 to one In 2,100.

If the dog is rabid. Rabiet Always Fatal Despite these odds, you must take all necessary piccautlons. Thc odds against a person surviving rabies without anti-rabies treatment arc even greater.
