BY BETH PREIS School District 30 Maple 8th grade volleyball team recently won the two-day Central Suburban Middle School Conference Tournament. rst day of the tournament involved ool play, with the top two teams in each fi ve- team pool advancing to the semi-fi nals. Northbrook school beat Gemini 2-0, Wilmette 2-0 and Northbrook Junior High 1-1. nal pool match was against Shepard Middle School, where the team won 2-0. Maple ended the fi rst day as the fi rst seed for its division with a 7-1 pool play record.

In the semi- nals, Maple beat Wood Oaks 2-1. Maple advanced to the championship, where the team beat Springman but was defeated in the second game, which called for a third and fi nal game. that game, Maple came out strong for a big win and took the conference tournament championship home to said Maple School volleyball coach Ryan Schaben. regular volleyball season record was 11-2. Th 12 team members include team captains: Mike Jang and Bradley Margolin; Cody Bolan, Daniel Cohen, Jason Doppelt, James Kim, Kevin Kuncheria, Corey Lenhoff Kevin Mathein, David Panitch, Ricky Poulton, John Suh.

Team members are Nick Tarantino, Jackson Hogg, Danny Liebrandt, Michael Cunningham with Coach John Nimesheim. Everyone is around 5 and in preschool.

Team coaches John Nimesheim and Tom ein said the emphasis is on having fun and learning the game more than winning. Defenders have about six more games until the end of the season, on Saturdays at Roosevelt Park, 2200 Grove Glenview. The team has a warm-up drill before its home game at Roosevelt Park May 2.
