Shaker started life modestly, working for his immigrant father selling clothes in a small-town store outside Cleve- landduring the Depression. About three decades later, Mr. Shaker started a recruitment advertising agency that has become the largest privately held firm of its kind in the nation. Along the way, he kept his sense of humor and never forgot to repay his gratitude, in grand and small gestures.

After working as an ad sales rep for Anthony Abraham for several years, Mr. Shaker started Shaker Advertising Agency in 1951with his wife. Today, the Oak Park-based company has more than 200 employees and other offices in Boston, East Brunswick, N.J., and Tampa. Mr. Shaker served as chairman of the company until his retirement in 1993.

His son Joseph G.serves as president. The third generation of the Shaker family also is involved in the company, his daughter said. Mr. Shaker loved to play cards and enjoyed visiting Las Vegas, loved ones said. A significant part of his professional and charitable success emerged from what friends described as a magnetic personality highlighted by his sense of humor.

Mr. Shaker received numerous awards, including the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, given to ethnic leaders who have made distinguished humanitarian contributions in the U.S., and the Massabki Medal of the National Apostolate of Maronites, which honors service among laypeople to the church. In addition to his wife and daughter, Mr. Shaker is survived by three sons, Anthony, Joseph and John; another daughter, Betty; a brother, Mitchell; a sister, Josephine; 13 grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. Mr. Greenwood became a life- long mentor to Clark Wangaard, current president of the firm, nowTaylor Co. was one of the most humble gentlemen and one of the most successful businessmen who Wangaard said. When Taylor became Specialty Equipment Companies in 1985, Mr. Greenwood became its chairman.

He retired in 2001. Mr. Greenwood then was free to embrace his passion for deep- sea fishing, his children said. He and six of his friends had formed a group called members wore namesake belt buckles, one of Mr. most prized possessions.

His children said they never even knew what meant. Mr. Greenwood also loved to travel abroad and encouraged his children to do the same. Edward L. Condon. Monday, April 3, 2006, in the company of family, with Mary Kay, his wife and partner of 46 years by his side, Ed Condon peacefully concluded hisbattle with cancer. A man of few words whose actions spoke volumes, Ed Condon was a great man by any measure that mattered. Ed was a faithful and devoted husband to Mary Kay.

He was a kind and loving father to John, Ed, Tom and the late Joseph. He was a proud andjoyful grandfather to Ryan, Colleen, Eamon, Mary Kate, Clare, Jacqueline, Julia, Stephen, Jane and Beth. He was a caring and supportive father-in-law to Cathie, Linda and Sally. He was the youngest of seven children born to the late Patrick and Mary Ellen, nee The beloved younger brother of Eleanor, Frank, Mary Waadt and the late Jim, Tom and Kay. A favorite uncle, cousin, relation or in-law to too many to count.

And a true and generousfriend to all who knew him. Ed was a graduate of Loyola University and received his MBA from the University of Chicago. He spent the majority of his career with Montgomery Wards. Among his many accomplishments, Ed created and patented a revolutionary system for merchandise distribution. He and Mary Kay raised their children in the parish of Saint Angela, where they were both actively involved.

They moved to Indian Head Park in 1990. Ed enjoyed a good game of bridge, a good Manhattan, a goodjoke and cigars of virtually any quality. Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 9 p.m. at Hallowell James FuneralHome, 1025 W. 55th Countryside.
