Born in Chicago in 1921, Mr.

Hart grew up in Highland Park, IL and attended North Shore Country Day School, Harvard College (magna cum laude) and Harvard Law School. During WWII, he served in the Signal Corps as aTech Sergeant in charge of 14 men in New Caledonia, South Pacific. He learned to fly on the G.I. bill. After the war, he worked in the research division of the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Hart then attended Harvard Law School and upon graduation in1950, joined the law firm now known as Mayor, Brown, Rowe and Maw. Mr. Hart surviveda KLM airplane crash in the ocean off Shannon, Ireland. Richard Foreman Hart was a grandson of Max Hart, founder of Hart, Schaffner Marx clothier.

Richard Hart served as treasurer on the board of North Shore Mental Healthand alumni class secretary for Harvard was involved in many charities. He enjoyed French cuisine and culture, and was an avid board sailor and skier until two years before his death. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathleen, nee Shepherd; daughters, Emily and Polly; son, Richard (Katie Peet); and two grandsons, Neekowee and Max Hart. In 2004, he moved to Galena, IL and lived with his daughter. He graduated from Hyde Park High School, where he played basketball and baseball and was selected to play onChicago All-City Basketball team. In addition, he was offered a minor league baseball contract by his coach, a scout for the Cincinnati Reds.

He served in the Army for five years during WWII. After two years as an enlisted man, he graduated from officer Cadet School as a lieutenant. He commanded a little-bearer platoon in Italy and France, and an ambulance platoon in Germany. He supported the 3rd Infantry Division during the Invasion of Southern France, and gavethe prisoners of Dachau Concentration Camp medical support at the time of their liberation. At war end he rejoined his battalion company headquarters in Dachau and lived therefor three months.

In Rome he had anaudience with Pope Pius. Captain Simon received the Bronze Star medal and four battle stars. On return to civilian life, he managed the Wm. A. Lewis store at 64th and Halsted for eight years, and the Grayson Store at State and Madison for seven years.

In 1962 he bought Lee of Kewanee, and operated it and four other women fashions stores in Princeton, and Sterling, IL. He retired in 1985. Mr. Simon was the youngest of six children born of Polish immigrants. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Larry, his brother Erwin, his sisters Lillian (Pass), Rose (Rosenthal), Sarah(Ellman).

He is survived by his daughter Stacey Leveque of Galena, IL and his sister Ann (Friedlander), 99, of Phoenix, AZ. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club for many years, Midland Country Club since 1963, and the VFW since 1963. Babe Simon, who by his own admission would tell others that he was one of the luckiest men on earth, was born one year after the 1917 White Sox World Series, and he passed away the very month of the White Soxvictory 88 years later.
