WarMothers To Sponsor Sale May 11 The Margaret Whitmer Chapter, American War Mothers, will hold its annual carnation sale May 11th and 12th. This Carnation Sale Is a national affair, observed by all chapters in the 38 states in which the American War Mothers' organization have chapters. It has been observed since 1924, when it was given the go-light by the late President Calvin Cooldlge. Contributions from these carnations will be used to provide entertainment, comfort and cheer for hospitalized veterans who served lo all branches of the armed forces, and through their effort and sacrifice are now hospitalized. Last year the American War Mothers spent nearly 1300.000 in hospital work, and Virginia alone over $7,000.

Most of this money was realized from the sale of carnations. A great part of the work of the Margaret Whitmer Chapter is done in Kecoughtan Hospital. The carnations are made by disabled veterans. The American War Mothers organization is unique in the fact that only blood mothers of men and women who have served or are now serving in the armed forces are eligible to join. It is the only organization of its kind formed at the request of the government and has been issued a charter by Congress.
