SATURDAY EVENING, NOV. 21, 1959 PAGE 8 Anthem Written For Thanksgiving Camile Van Hulse, composer, conductor and organist, i honored in a special music program at the Community Thanksgiving Service in the University of Arizona Auditorium at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The Music Committee of the Tucson Council of Churches is arranging for a choir of 300. voices for the llth annual service.

To be sung will be an anthem written by the Tucson composer for the occasion. It is entitled, "Come Ye The second anthem will be "Now Thank We All Our God." Members of the choir will come from churches affiliated with the Tucson Council of Churches. They will hold a special rehcarsa 1 at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium. Speaker for the service will bs the Rev.

C. Richard DLiFresue. pastor of the First Congregational Church. Leading pastors of the city mil have parts in the program. Participating will be many Protestant churches, the Greek Orthodox, and Temple Emanu-t'l.

This is Van Hulse's 36th ysar In Tucson. He was organist at Ail Saints and SS Peter Paul Catholic Churches, organizer and first conductor of the Tucson Symphony, but in recent years has restricted himself to musical composition. During the week the Southern Arizona chapter of the American Guild of Organists arranged a series of honors for Van Hulsc There was a concert at Methodist Church Thur.sd.iy evening with Charles Shaffer of Hollywood, giving a recital featuring Van Hulse compositions. Last night there was a dinner in Van Hulse's honor. Organists at many Tucson churches played Van Kulse's compositions in services.

Two years ago in his native Belgium, Van Hulse was honoro'J by a festival on his birthday in October. A cantata, "Mystical Symphony," by the composer was broadcast nation-wide by rad-o. His compositions are in the repertory of great organists such as Gabriel Verschragen of Ghent: Joan Lanplais of Paris; and Alexander Shreiner of Salt Lake City. Many Van Hulse compositions have been premiered in Tucson. Among recent ones, "Twns in the Moon of Wintertime," first was presented by the Amphitheater High School Chorus last December.

Allan Smyth, new director of Christian Education for the Arizona Baptist Convention, will be featured at the Jubilee Hour in the First Baptist Church at 7 p.m. tomorrow. The church is located at North 6th Avenue and East 5th Street. The Rev. Mr.

Smyth comes to the Conservative Baptist work in Arizona from San Gabriel, Calif. There he was minister of Christian Education at San Gabriel Union Church. More than 1,000 were in his Sunday School program at the San Gabriel church. He directed a summer Bible conference program with 2,200 campers. The Rev.

Mr. Smyth has experience both in music and education fields. He completed study in piano at the Toronto Conservatory of Music. He also is a singer. The Jubilee Hour is a recent early Sunday, Evening service at the First Baptist Church.

White Cross For Church On Broadway Along with the other bright lights on East Broadway will be a white cross atop the tower of First Assembly of God church. Randall Cantrell, youth coordinator at the church at 1749'E. Broadway, said raising the $800 estimated cost is a project of the church youth department. In the shape a cross, the sign will revolve and carry on one side the words, "Jesus Saves," and on the other, "Jesus Heals." Already raised is $300. Next money raising plan was a car wash at the church parking lot from 9 a.m.

to 5 p.m. today. The car washing chores were carried on by two crews of a dozen youths each. Cantre'll estimated the sign will be atop the tower in the spring. Pastor Heyn To Be Honored A service in honor of the Rev.

Paul Heyn for his 25th anniversary in the ministry will be held tomorrow at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Pomona, Calif. The Rev. Mr. Heyn was formerly pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church here in Tucson. Congratulatory messages may be sent to 7G6 Mountain Pomona, so that the observance will be a surprise for Pastor Heyn.

PASTOR OF NEW CHURCH The Rev. Marvin A. Stewart, pastor at the new Tucson Missionary Baptist Church, and Mrs. Stewart. Congregation Moves 111 Chapel Building The Tucson Missionary Baptist Church in the 5900 block of East Lee street has occupied half of its first building and is continuing construction on a 5-room Sunday school wing.

Meanwhile the new congregation has called its second pastor, the Rev. Marvin A. Stewart. The Rev. Mr.

Stewart has been preaching five years and was ordained Aug. 5, 1956, at Culloden (W. Va.) Missionary Baptist Church. This is his third pastorate. He had the Lower Falls Baptist Church at St.

Albanis, W. and the 900-member Sugar Creek Baptist Church at Ironton, Ohio. Missionary Baptists are an independent group. Services are at 9:45 a.m. for Sunday School, 11 a.m.

Corleit, widely known Nazarene educator, administrator and pastor, is in Tucson to conduct revival services at'First Church of the Nazarene in a 10-day period ending Nov. 29. The church is at East 10th St. and North Highland Ave. The Rey.

The Rev. Mr. Corlett has been president ol the Nazarene Theological Seminary at Kansas City, since June of 1952. The seminary is a graduate school for Nazarene For 10 years hei was president of Northwest Nazarene College, Nampa, Idaho. He has served four other church colleges.

An ordained elder in the Nazarene church since 1918, he has pas- tored churches in California, Montana, New Jersey and Texas. The Rev. Mr. Corlett has written several books in the field of religion. Bethany Nazarene College, Bethany, has conferred on him an honorary doctor's degree.
