Services Held For Ernst T. Paulsen Services were held Sunday, August 19 at 2:30 p.m, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, tor Ernst T. Paulsen who died August 16 at commrnity Memorial Hospital, Postville. The Rnv.

NormiUi ullestad officiated. Ernst Theodore Paulsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Johannas Paulsen, and Dorothy Miller, was born March 30, 1889 in Keil, Germany and was baptized there May 5, 1889. He came to America at the age of 15 with his parents and was confirmed into St.

Paul Lutheran Church on March 27, 1904 where he remained a faithful member. On January 28, 1913 he was married to Almti Funk of Luana with his brother serving as officiating pastor. To this union five children were bom. Mr. Paulsen farmed in the Luana and Postville area until his retirement at which time he moved Into Postville.

He was preceded In death by his wife, December 15, 1965, a brother Henry and a sister Rosa, who died in Germany; a brother Rev. William Paulsen of Cedar Rapids and a grandson, Lorenz E. (Buddy) Pape. Surviving are his five children, Herold of Mesa, Arizona; Harvey of Elgin; Henry, Postville; Hazal (Mrs. Lorenz Pape), Postville; Hilda (Mrs.

Eugene Horstnum), Guttenberg; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren; a brother John of Loomis, Nebraska and several nieces and nephews. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. Shriners Plan Day Of Fun And Food The Northeast Iowa Shrine Club is planning a Pig Roast and Las Vegas day Sunday, August 26 at the Max Steege Ranch south of New Hampton. The fun starts at 1:00 p.m. Serving starts at p.m.

The ranch is located two miles south of New Hampton on Highway 63, then west 1 miles. Tickets are available to the public from local Shrlners. All profits go to the Shrine Hospital fund. Wm. S.

Ketchie New Intern At St. Paul Church The new intern for the year 1973-74 at St. Paul Lutheran Church Is William S. Ketchie, from Gold Hill, North Carolina. Intern Ketchie has completed his second year at the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, Sou'h Carolina, and will spend this year working on the staff at St.

Paul Lutheran Church, He is married, and his wife Kathy is from Faith, North Carolina and will be employed by the Community Schools this year. Tag Team Match Highlights Action At Big-Four Fair The main event for the wrestling card to be presented at the Big-Four Fair in Postville, Friday, Aug. 24, will be a tag-team event. This will be one of four events featured at the fair. The event will be held rain or shine, according to Big-Four Fair officials.

In the event of rain the ring will be moved inside Dreamland Ballroom. The opening match will pit Bob Brown and Mike George. Then in the special event Jim Dalton will take on Jim Brunzell. The semi-final event will pit Hillbilly Vic against jay French. In the evening's finale, Bob Brown and Jim Dalton will pit their strength and finesse against the brute force of Mike George and Jim Brunzell.

and Mrs, School Starts Here Today; No Classes Men. The PostviUe Public Schools opened at 8:30 today (Wednesday) for a full day of classes. There will not be classes on the next two Mondays. Monday, August 27 school will be closed so the faculty can attend ajolnt County Teachers Institute in Decor ah. Teachers are required to attend one day of institute to receive salary for that day as provided by law.

All Postville schools will also be closed Monday, September 3 for the Labor Day holiday. Individual student pictures will be taken Friday, August 24. Students are not required to purchase pictures. Drivers are asked to use special caution along the school rodte and crossings and to be extra alert for the young pedestrians. Services Held For Mrs.

George Hein Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 18 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, for Mrs. George Hein who died at the Community Memorial Hospital, Poslville, Wednesday, August 15. The Rev.

Norman Ullestad officiated. Emma Rosina Meier, the daughter of Ludwlg Meier and Charlotte Wernhardt, was born December 23, 1881 at Postville. She was baptized into St. Lutheran church, Postville, June 11, 1832 and confirmed April 7. 1895.

She remained a faithful member to the church and the LCW program, On September 26, 1911 she was married to George W. Hein of Postville and to this union four children were born. She lived all of her life in Postville and took a special interest in her flowers and garden. Preceding her in death were her husband, a daughter Charlotte who died in infancy; two sons, Harlan and Lewis, together with her brothers, Louis, Christ, Henry and Fred Meier; two sisters, Louisa (Mrs. Fred Kamp) and Minnie (M.rs, William Hein).

She is survived by her son Harold in Florida, two granddaughters, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Fire Destroys Barn On Charles Kohls Farm Fire of undetermined origin destroyed the barn on the Charles Kohls farm 8 miles south of Postville about 6:30 p.m,, Friday, Aug. 17. The bam, eight calves, hay and straw, were destroyed by the blaze. The Clermont and Elgin fire departments answered the call and kept the fire from spreading to other buildings.

Set New Hours For Swim Pool Starting Wednesday, August 22, the Hall Roberts Community Pool will be open from 3 to 9 p.m., week days and 1 to 9 on weekends, according to pool manager, Ken Lein. The pool will continue on these hours through Labor Day. Adult hours will be discontinued for the rest of the season. Labor Day will be the final day of swimming and closing time will be 6p.m. Culver-Clark In Wauhon Today To Meet Public U.

S. Representative John Culver and U. S. Senator Dick Clark have announced that they will be in Allamakee County today Wednesday, August 22 and will hold public office hours from 2:03 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Assembly Room, Allamakee County Court House, Waukon.

In their announcement, Culver and Clark said the purpose of the office hours will be to allow residents to talk with them directly about any government- related problems or concerns they might have. They urged anyone wishing to see them these reasons to take this opportunity to do so. No appointment needs to be mada in advance, they said. They cited difficulties with social security, veterans benefits and government loans as examples of the kinds of problems people might to bring in, adding that they will also be happy to meet with people who simply want to communicate their views on pending legislation or other governmental Senator Clark will be making these visits around the state throughout the year, holding office hours in at least one city in each of the 99 counties. He expects to cover a total of 25 counties during the August Congressional recess.

Representative Culver is nuiking a similar swing through the Second District during the recess pari- od. The legislators said they decided to coordinate their visits in Culver's district to avoid the confusion which might result from keeping separate schedules. Fritz Attends Banking School Darwin Fritz, cashier, Citizens State Bank, attended the 29th annual session of The Graduate School of Banking at the 'University of Wisconsin, Madison from August 5-18. Attendance at the school enabled its students to meet bankers from all over the country and also hear distinguished lecturers and recognized authorities in banking, economics, government, law, agriculture and finance from all parts of the nation. I Will Present Two Free Shows The Williams Family will provide two family-type shows at the Big- Four Fair.

These free shows will be on the Free-Act platform at 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday. This family, of Ron and Kathy, with children Rick, George, Steve and little Lora, have entertained throughout the Midwest and several parts of Canada. The family uses an organ, piano, trombone, guitars, bass and drums as well as vocal renditions by everyone. The Williams Family has been described as like eating popcorn Once you start you can't stop.

Be sure to see this fine family act at the Big-Four Fair in Postville Saturday, August 25. County Firemen Elect Fishback The Allamakee County Firemen's Association held their monthly meeting Thursday, August 16 at Waterville. An election of officers for the ensuing year was held with the following results: President Charles Fishback; vice president--Richard G. Meyer; L. Meyer.

Upper Explorerland Receives Funding Approval At The Theatre The Iris Theatre will be closed Thursday through Tuesday, August 23 through 28 for vacation. Funding approval has just been received for the Upper Explorer- laud Resource Conservation and Development Project, according to Ralph Fitzgerald, chairman. The approval was given by the S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D. on August 10.

The approval has been given as a result of the efforts of local people beginning over 4 years ago at their first moating. Upper Explorerland is a locally initiated program through the Food and Agriculture Act of 1962 and other authorities to provide local groups technical and financial help in conserving and developing their Enjoying A Gabfest Before The Feast Members of the Postville FFA, mostly with backs to the camera, appear to be listening to farmers and businessmen talk over their mutual interests while they wait in line for the fried chicken potluck supper last Tuesday evening. Each project moa- sure nvist stand on its owu mor- funds are available through various U.S.D.A. agencies for eligible purposes in- clu'J-ng the following: accelerated technical service, erosion control, flood prevention, farm irrigation, land drainage, soil aid water managemnnt for agriculture-related pollutant control and public water-based fish and wildlife and recreation development.

Assistance is available to legal sponsors which can show comrn i.iity benefits for project measures. Any group wanting to request assistance of the local organization or know more about the program may contact a local U.S.D.A. office in the five county Upper Explorerland area. 4-H Demonstrations And Dress Revue At Dreamland Sat. Sixteen 4-H presentations will be given at Dreamland Ballroom at the Fairgrounds, Saturday, August 25, starting at 10:00 and continuing through the noon hour until they are finished.

There will be four teams from each county Allamakea, vvinne- shiek, Clayton and Fayette. At the completion of the presentations, 40 4-H girls will have their dress revue in garments modeled, designed and sewn by the girls for their own wardrobe. The public is invited to view the presentations and dress revue. Fine Array Of Entertainment For Whole Family The 54th annual Big-Four Fair will open here Thursday for a tour-day run. Thursday will be entry day.

The four-county event offering a fine array of entertainment, will continue throughout Sunday evening, August 26. Four groups will present free acts or events during the course of the four days and Evans United Shows will be on the midway. Admission prices will be the same as last year, and season tickets are on sale at many Postville business places. The advance sale on lower prices season tickets ends today, Wednesday, August 22. Thursday morning and afternoon will be used as entry day.

At 6:30 the first of four softball games will get under way. The Home Talent show in Dreamland Ballroom will start at 7 p. m. At 9 p.m., Thursday there will be a free teen dance with the "Setting Sun" providing the music. Friday will open with judging of hogs and sheep at 7:30.

At 9 a.m. judging on beef cattle, baked goods, canned goods and needlework will commence. Judging of flowers, farm and garden produce will start at 1 P.m, The softball tournament will continue at 6:30. At 7:45 p.m., the evening's entertainment will feature all star wrestlers as seen on TV. At 9 p.m., "The Blue Flames" will play for a dance In Dreamland Ballroom, Saturday morning Judging of dairy cattle will start at 8:30 a.m.

Boys and girls 4-H presentations will start at 10:00 a.m. Judging of 4-H and FFA Horses will be at 1:30 p.m. Also at 1:30 Dr. Max and Mom- bo will be on stage and redjced price rides will be given for kids on advance sales. At 3 p.m.

Sunday. At 2:30 p.m., Londja Parrls and the Apostles, a gospel singing group will appear on the free act platform. They will present a second show at 7:45 p.m. This is just a brief outline of the main features of the fair. Some of the other attractions include displays of hobbies, Including stamp collections, shells, buttons, food stands operated by local groups, individual displays, commercial exhibits by area merchants and the women's homo project booth, Mrs.

Alma Bishop Dies In Waterloo Mrs. Alma Bishop of 225 West 5th, Waterloo, Iowa died Sunday, August 19 at Schoitz Hospital, Waterloo, of cancer at Uw age of 71. Mrs. Bishop was born at Clermo it, Iowa on August 19th, 1902 and made her home for many years in Waterloo. She was the daughter of Andrew and Gunda Erickson Hanson.

Preceding her in teath were her husband, Thomas Bishop, her parents, sisters Emma, Joste and Inga and brothers Gustay Edon, Louis and Oscar. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Martha Davis of Waterloo, with whom she her homo, and one brother, Gilbert, of Clermont, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bishop donated her body to the Medical Research center at the University of Iowa.

Iowa City. There will be a graveside memorial service later at Cedar Falls. Services Thursday For Irene Meier Funeral services will be held August 23 at 11:00 at the Schutte Funeral Homo. Postville, for Irene Meier, 87, who died Monday at Community Memorial Hospital. The Rev.
