TV i Repeat 730 ATOMIC PRLMER The discovery of electrons in a crookes tube is explained and demonstrated as is Roentgen's work in discovering the X-ray. CBS REPORTS Best Bet CBS Repoorts tonight repeats "Trujillo: Portrait of a Dictator," figuring this is good timing with the Dominican Republic strongman back in the news again. CBS reporter Bill Leonard and cameraman Martin Barnett managed to get 75,000 feet of film before Trujillo's men made it clear that they'd better leave. What Leonard brought home is a fine documentary that finds Trujillo in fiscal trouble, but probably able to ride out the storm, with most of his people too uninformed to recognize their lack of freedom. Leonard shot some footage inside Trujillo's palace.

There's an interview with the head man, which isn't too informative. Leonard talked to some of the local powers, a few insurgents and other Caribbean experts, including Puerto Rico's Munoz Marin, who calls "the worst of the Lation-American dictators." Most significant to Leonard was the "profound quiet" of the country, indicating to him that people were living in fear. Simultaneously, crazed Guis-eppe Zangara is -planning to kill President Roosevelt during the same Miami affair.

The attack took place at Miami's Bay Front Park, which has been recreated faithfully, and even the number of people who rough up the assassin after he shoots is authentic. QD SILENTS PLEASE There's a sad story behiind the film being shown on Silents Please tonight It's "Tempest," with John Barrymore in one of his great romantic roles. (This isn't the Shakespearean "Tempest," by the way.) His leading lady is a German actress named Camilla Horn.

When this was made, in 1928, Greta Garbo was queen, and every studio wanted to find "another Garbo." Camilla Horn was imported for that position, but the public never accepted her, and this was her biggest part She drifted into oblivion afterwards. WRANGLER Wrangler is more comedy than Western tonight, with our hero getting mixed up with a spirited Turkish wench. For reasons of the heat she insists to her rile-toting father that "she is married to Pitcairn. And there's no way out Before the whole thing is over, Pitcairn is beaten up and likes it making this perhaps the world's first Western where the hero loses the big fight. CD UNTOUCHABLES The Untouchables concludes its XT 3ii The old "Bob Show," now in re Cummings runs, was about a carefree photographer and beautiful girls: Tab Hunter's new "Bachelor at Large" series will be about a carefree cartoonist and beautiful girls. It's hard to find a Western which doesn't recall more than one earlier venture along the same thremes.

But now there's "Stagecoach West" rolling in as "Overland Trail," also about a stagecoach line, is disappearing over the hill. "angel" concerns an American man married to a French wife and will be a situation comedy. Its producer is a man who once produced a situation comedy about an American girl who was married to a Cuban man. It was called 'I love Lucy." None of this geneological sudy -is to suggest that any or all of these can't be perfectly wonderful shows. It merely is an indication of the problems the makers of TV series have if they would satisfy the insatiable demands of television.

ON WHEELS IL E. Christy, ol Riverside, asks why the Roller Derby went off the air. The Roller Derby is one of those shows that the networks find faintly disreputable, hence do as little as possible to publicize them. However, the Derby does manage to get sponsored and, as a consequence, a network will occasionally look the other way while putting the Derby on TV.

But as soon as something can be found to replace it, off it comes. It will undoubtedly wheel back in view one of these days. If present plans for many of the new TV series hold up, a lot of next season's shows will be strongly reminiscent of programs we have seen before. But there will be switches and changes, of course, so one must look closely to discover the program's antecedents. It si well known that the basic number of plots, boiled down to their bare bones, total some seven, and that book, play and script writers for generations have been threading their way among them. Thus, one should not be too harsh on the TV program makers when some of these bones show. However, after two weeks of wandering among the new television shows in tthe making, I find myself (mostly when stuck in freeway traffic) playing a little game called "find the ancestor." For instance, "Lassie" is a successful series about a boy and his dog: the new "national Velvet" will concern a girl and her horse.

However, popular stories about children and their animals go much farther back than television. DENNIS, ANYONE Jo Bell Larson, of Houston asks what has happened to Dennis James, and what was the show he used to have on daytime TV.
