In his proclamation issued today, the governor urges all citl- bens to engage extensively in ths planting of trees and shrubs in "in order that they may have the satisfaction in future years of reaping the benefit of the act ot this Arbor Day." Ttie proclamation text follows: "With an earnest wish that the day be spent in such endeavor as to tend to increase the beauty of pur surroundings, John Hammill, governor of Iowa, designate Friday, April 23rd, 192C, as Arbor Day. It is time we became growers as well as users of wood. It is time we paid heed to our idle acres--that we restored woods, Industries and people on i large part of our soil -which lacks thorn all. Urge Schools to Help "Educational institutions and others are urged to arrange for appropriate observance of Aroor Day, 192C, and on this occasion it should be impressed upon the minds of all. and especially upon the minds of the school children, what the. forests mean to the nation and the necessity of planting, caring for and perpetuating the trees shrubs and vines. The ground surrounding the schools, churches and public institutions ol the state should be special attention, in order that they may added beauty in future.

Municipal authorities and civic organizations are urged to make a special effort year to encourage the planting ot trees and shrubs along public thir oughfaTes. Public educational institutions, civic organizations and each indimlual are charged to enter into the spirit of Arbor Day, as suggested by this proclamation, and plant trees and shrubs to beautify the streets residences and public Highways of the towns and cities of the state. so doing we will m3se the noble purpose practical and effective, and have the satisfaction in future years of reaping the benefit of the att of this Arbor -Jay."
