Augustana received nine first-place votes and 164 points in the poll voted on by the conference's 14 head coaches. Winona State (158 points) was second and earned three first-place votes. Minnesota State (140 points) and Concordia University, St Paul (130 points) each collected one first-place vote and were picked third and fourth, respectively.

Schilling, a senior from Ellsworth, led the league in scoring with 21.2 points per game last year. He shot 52.4 percent from the field while averaging 4.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game. His first-team selections last season included spots on the All-NSIC, Daktron-ics All-Central Region and NABC All-Central District squads. Schilling has started 89 straight games and is ninth on the Augustana career-scoring list with 1,391 points. The Vikings will play at Minnesota on Nov.

Four Vikings are nationally ranked: Nate Herda, a junior from Rock Rapids, Iowa, is the preseason No. 1 at 149 pounds. Herda finished 26-8 a year ago. He was third last season. Senior Jason Jeremiason, a Marshall, native who finished third in the nation last season, is No.

2 at 133 pounds. Senior Marcus Edgington, a 157-pounder from Sioux City, is ranked No. 6 in his weight class. He went 27-9 in 2010-11, finishing seventh at nationals. Senior Carl Serck of Hudson, S.D., is ranked seventh at 174 pounds.

He was 28-7 last season and narrowly missed nationals after placing fifth at the Super Region Three Championship. Ganious earns academic honor University of South Dakota senior running back Chris Ganious is one of 16 football players named as recipients of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete and finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy. Each NFF National Scholar-Athlete honoree will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship in New York City on Dec. 16, and one of the 16 will be announced as the 22nd recipient of the William V.

Campbell Trophy, which recognizes an individual as the best scholar-athlete in the nation. Ganious, a native of Houston, Texas, is one of six non-Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) student-athletes to win the prestigious honor. Boyden-Hull-Rock Valley wins Nathan Alexander scored on an 11-yard run in the first quarter and Boyden-Hull-Rock Valley beat Atlantic 17-7 on Wednesday in the first round of the Class 3A high school football playoffs in Hull, Iowa. David De Bruin added a 29-yard field goal in the first quarter and Brandt Van Roekel scored on a 27-yard run in the third. Atlantic scored its only touchdown in the third quarter.

Alexander ran for 106 yards on 20 carries and Colin Bolkema had two interceptions for BHRV. BHRV (10-0) plays Carroll, Monday in Rock Valley.
