Parish Dallas TEXAS Tornado Strikes i i Austin JbiM: By JAMES CULLEN Staff Writer PARIS Two funnels dipped from a gray, Smoky sky Friday afternoon and joined to cut a 4-mile trail of destruction through the northern part of this town. Five to seven unconfirmed deaths were reported and an estimated 200 were injured as the tornado cut a half-mile swath, leveling homes businesses in the north part of town Estimates of damage remained sketchy.

The tornado was spawned by a storm system that dumped rain over Northeast Texas, and also caused damage for about 30 miles east of Paris along U.S. 82. The two funnels appeared northwest of town about 4 p.m., according to city emergency coordinator Dick Boots. Hundreds of displaced residents were housed by volunteers as well as emergency Red Cross centers at two schools. The city council, meeting in emergency session Friday night, put a 10 p.m.

curfew on the area comprising roughly the north one-half of the city after reports of looting following the twiwster. The area was declared off limits to any unauthorized personnel for seven days. Texas National Guard troops were also reported activated by Gov. Bill Clements to help police control the area. Schools were already closed Friday due to University Inter-schoslatic League competition.

There was considerable confusion because the students were due to arrive home because of the tornado, but no injuries were reported from that. Nearby, more than 100 mobile homes were flattened and a barber shop was sheared at the foundation. Some 50 homes in the nearby Eastfield Neighborhood were also reported flattened.

Glenn Barnett, a volunteer fireman from neighboring Reno, said he pulled several children from the rubble of the trailer park, with most suffering from cuts and shock. Longview ISD board Three candidates seek two positions Saturday on the board of See Issues, 8-A Today is election day, and some area voters are going to find they will have to travel to as many as three locations to cast ballots in city, school and local option bingo races. Here is a listing of polling places in the various Longview area elections. LONGVIEW CITY COUNCIL D1STKICTS Deletes Carter's mandate that officials must "determine whether the public interest in disclosure outweighs the damage to national security that might reasonably be expected from disclosure." Drops Carter's requirement that classified documents be reviewed after six years with an eye toward releasing them unless their continued classification is required to protect national security. Creates a new area of classification: "the vulnerabilities or capabilities of systems, installations, projects or plans that relate to the national security." Critics claim this provision amounts to a "blank check" for the government to keep documents secret. Senior administration officials said Friday they did not believe the new order will lead to more documents being kept secret. But they said it will make it easier to block court challenges to their classification decisions.

The officials, who asked to remain anonymous, said the order was designed to prevent the release of information through administrative or judicial decisions might harm national WASHINGTON (AP) President Reagan signed an executive order Friday that makes it easier for officials to stamp documents secret, reversing a 30-year trend of giving the public more access to government files. "It is essential for our citizens to be informed about their government's activities, but it is also essential to protect certain sensitive information when disclosure could harm the security of all our Reagan said in a statement accompanying the order. The order replaces one signed by President Carter in 1978 that added new restrictions on use of the government secrecy stamp and insisted that secrecy be specifically balanced ogainst the public's right to know. The Reagan order, which has gone through several drafts over the past year, has been criticized by journalists and civil libertarians as granting government officials too much power to withhold information from the public. Primarily, the Reagan order: Allows classification of documents even if possible damage to national security is not East Texans vote today on candidates from Place 1 and Ruby Smith from Place 2 face several candidates.

Tommy Jones, Sue Briggs, Jesse Earl Sealey and Ruben Martin will run against Mayfield in Place 1. Larry Gill and Eva Barry: er are vying for the Place 2 spot. In Place 1, incumbent Jerry Stowe is running unopposed, as are incumbent Eloise Flanagan in Place and newcomer Rayford Ford in Place 4. BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) Several thousand Argentine troops led by marines seized the Falkland Islands from Britain on Friday. The government claimed the South Atlantic islands' governor "surrendered unconditional- "The Argentine flag flies again in the Malvinas. Mission accomplished," the communique said. Jubilant Argentines cheered, waved flags, tooted horns and being assembled to recapture the archipelago, 250 miles off the Argentine coast. The bleak islands, called the Falklands by Britain and Malyinas by Argentina since their dispute over them began early in the last century, are honie: for about 1,800 sheep farmers of British descent.

In recent years there have been reports of oil and gas deposits. Britain condemned the "unprovoked aggression," broke diplomatic relations and demand sounded sirens. Church bells pealed. The military reported one dead and two wounded among its assault forces and there were no official reports of British casualties. Unconfirmed reports in Buenos Aires, however, said there were of casualties," without specifying whether dead or wounded, or on which side.

Britain said some of its warships were steaming to the scene and a ''very powerful" task force.
