San Diego quarterback Dan Fouts moved into second place on the NFL's all-time passing yardage list with 40,287 yards, passing Johnny Unitas Houston's Tony Zendejas kicked three field goals, and the Oilers took advantage of five Minnesota turnovers and the loss of quarterback Tommy Kramer for a 23-10 victory at Houston, knocking the Vikings out of the playoff picture. Dave Wilson scored on a 6-yard bootleg run with 1:55 remaining as New Orleans snapped a three-game losing streak with a 14-9 victory over host Atlanta. What more can you ask of a quarterback than what he showed today. I like who I've got," said Meyer, unbeaten in two games since he replaced Rod Do-whower as coach. Should the Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers finish with the same records, Tampa Bay would get the first draft pick because of its weaker schedule. The Colts, winning their second in a row after losing the first 13 of the season, trailed, 14-0, through the first half before taking control with Hogeboom's passing. Buffalo quarterback Jim Kelly was shaken up early in the game and sat out much of the second and third quarters.

"He received a blow to the head and had trouble remembering things and was dizzy," Bills Coach Marv Levy said. they will have to depend on the outcome of several other games to make the playoffs. The Raiders had cut the Chiefs' lead to 20-17 on a 2-yard touchdown run by Marcus Allen late in the third quarter. Los Angeles then drove from its 31-yard line to Kansas City's 16 before Napoleon McCallum fumbled on a first-down play. Lloyd Burruss stripped the ball, and it rolled back to Kansas City's 29, where Cofield fell on it with 6:16 to play.

The Raiders got the ball back one final time, at their 15 with 1:58 left after a punt, but Ross intercepted a pass thrown by Jim Plunkett on the first play, and the Chiefs ran out the clock. After an incomplete pass and another sack for another 11 -yard loss, Young faced fourth-and-goal from the 26. He completed a pass to Gerald Cater, but the play was stopped on Green Bay's 7. The Packers took over with 4:18 to play and ran out the clock. Besides that failure to score from the 2, Young lost two scoring chances in the second quarter. He had a pass intercepted on one drive and was called for intentional grounding on another.

In addition he was sacked seven times by seven different Packers. The sack that hurt the most, however, was when Bucs Coach Leeman Bennett pulled him for DeBerg in the fourth quarter. Not wanting to comment on being benched or on the availability of Testaverde, Young had as much difficulty completing a statement as he had completing a pass. "I've worked too hard for 15 weeks for said Young who stopped, then started again. "A waste of energy to talk about any of it." Ironically, Young was voted the Bucs' Most Valuable Player by the press corps Sunday.

The trophy is a painting, traditionally given to the winner at the first preseason game of the following year. Whether Young is here to receive it remains to be seen. After a scoreless first quarter, Green Bay scored in each of the next three quarters on long drives. Quarterback Randy Wright put the Pack ahead for good on a 6-yard run, running back Gerry Ellis scored on a 2-yard run and fullback Paul Ott Carruth gave Green Bay a 21-0 lead on a 1-yard plunge. Speaking will be "Voice of the Bucs" Mark Champion, St. Petersburg Times columnist Tom Zucco and The Orlando Sentinel's Jerry Greene. Bucs punter Frank Garcia was injured late in the game, and running back Ron Springs got off a decent punt that rolled for 43 yards. After eight games without a sack by a defensive lineman and four games without a sack at all, the Bucs got two Sunday, one each by ends Ron Holmes and Kevin Kellin. 2 leading a second-half rally that carried the Indianapolis Colts to a 24-14 victory over the Buffalo Bills.

Kicker Dean Biasucci, who missed two field-goal attempts from close range in the first half, hit a career-best 52-yarder midway -through the final period to give the Colts the lead for good. The pressure to draft Heisman Trophy winner Vinny Testaverde doesn't seem so great, according to Colts Coach Ron Meyer. BUCS From D-1 would get the first pick in the draft by virtue of facing a weaker schedule. All Tampa Bay has to do to cinch picking first is lose at St. Louis in the last game.

Young had a poor game, worse than his passing statistics of 10 completions in 20 attempts for 104 yards indicate. The Bucs' only score came in the fourth quarter on a 9-yard pass from backup quarterback Steve DeBerg to tight end Calvin Magee. Shortly after the touchdown, a moment in Bucs history took place their first blocked punt. Ivory Sully did the honors, giving the ball to the Bucs on the Packers' 2 with 5:34 to play. A quick touchdown would mean the Bucs actually had a chance to avoid los-ing for the sixth consecutive week.

DeBerg had sustained a concussion and wrist injury on his touchdown pass and could not play. Packers punter Bill Renner gets his kick blocked by Bucs Ivory Sully (bottom) blocks kick with help from Ervin Randle COACH From D-1 immediately. Perkins contacted his attorney-agent, Orlando-based Robert Fraley, and asked him to reach Culverhouse as soon as possible to set up another conversation. When asked about the situation, Fraley's only comment was, "Coach Perkins wants to stop the rumors." Perkins has indicated to associates that the only way he would return to the NFL, where he was head coach of the New York Giants before going to Alabama, is if he was given complete control of a team's football organization.

Bennett, who is finishing the second year of a 5-year contract, would not talk about the situation except to say that the rumors "affect everyone" on the Bucs staff and roster. The Bucs were 2-14 last year and are 2-13 now with one game left, on the road this week against St. Louis. But most players say Bennett is not at fault. "The fans don't know Leeman Bennett," Bucs offensive guard Sean Farrell said.

"Above all he's a good man who was not dealt a fair hand." 400-YARD MAN SUNDAY WAS another record-breaking day for Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino, who completed 29 of 46 passes for 403 yards and five touchdowns against the Los Angeles Rams. He broke the NFL record for most 400-yard passing games In a career with seven. Marino and Dan Fouts held the previous record of six. TD MACHINE MARINO'S 41 touchdown passes this season are the second-most in NFL history. Marino already holds the record of 48 touchdown passes in a season, set in 1984 He has thrown at least one touchdown in 22 consecutive games and 53 of his last 56 games.

During a five-minute stretch in the third quarter, Thomas was burned for two touchdowns a 19-yard catch by wide receiver Henry Ellard and a 23-yard reception by former Tampa Bay Bucs wide receiver Kevin House. Thomas: "On the first one, I didn't challenge him Ellard enough. I saw the ball very late. On the second one, I thought I had him House.

He just outplayed me." GARY SILVERS Green Bay. "He called me to recommend another coach should I be interested in making a coaching change. I thanked him for the recommendation and wished him well in the Sun Bowl. We did not discuss his coaching the Bucs." Culverhouse's statement is correct as far as it goes. Sources on the Alabama staff say Perkins did call Culverhouse to recommend Rollie Dotsch, former coach of the United States Football League's Birmingham Stallions.

However, Culver-house replied that he wanted Perkins to consider taking the Bucs job and that they would talk about it once the season is over. Perkins feels he cannot wait, because his name has been connected publicly with the Bucs. He wants to know what Culverhouse has to offer now. Avg TD Newsome 1 0 00 0 first half. Trailing, 21-7, at halftime, the Rams outscored the Dolphins, 24-10, in the second half to send the game into overtime. Los Angeles, which set season highs for points scored and points allowed, tied the score with 50 seconds left in regulation on a 1-yard run by Eric Dickerson, who rushed for a game-high 124 yards on 28 carries. Rookie quarterback Jim Everett, starting his fourth consecutive game, completed three passes for 51 yards during the drive. He finished with a career-high 18 completions in 31 attempts for 251 yards and two touchdowns in his first losing outing.

But Marino overshadowed him, throwing five touchdowns against-a defense that had surrendered only 10 touchdown passes in its first 14 games. Three of those touchdowns came in the first half when the Dolphins' offense was virtually unstoppable against the NFL's second-ranked defense. Miami churned out 506 yards, the most against Los Angeles this season. The Dolphins limited the Rams to 372 yards, including only 142 on the ground. "We just came up a little short," Rams Coach John Robinson said.

"It was a day in which nothing happened very easy for us." The day belonged to the Dolphins. "That had all the excitement, you could want in a football game," Shula said. "For a change, good things happened to the Dolphins." MIAMI From D-1 back LeRoy Irvin in the left corner of the end zone on second down. "There was no risk whatsoever." Despite the loss Los Angeles secured a playoff berth because the Minnesota Vikings (8-7) were upset by the Houston Oilers. The Rams will battle the San Francisco 49ers (9-5-1), who also earned a playoff berth, for the West Division title Friday night at Candlestick Park.

If Miami doesn't make the playoffs, it will at least have the satisfaction of knowing it knocked off two division leaders this season. In addition to the Rams, the Dolphins embarrassed the New York Jets, 45-3, last month. Duper, who caught five passes for 185 yards and three touchdowns, shared the game ball with Marino. But it was center Dwight Stephenson who should have won the game ball Shula said. Stephenson made perhaps the biggest play of the game just before overtime when he called heads on the coin flip and won, giving the Dolphins first possession in the extra period.

"Woody Bennett called heads at the beginning of the game and lost," Stephenson said. "I thought the odds were in our favor if I called heads."
