D-6 The Orlando Sentinel, Tuesday, June 3, 1 986 Man suspected in abduction plot 2 workers charged with selling guns By Prakash Gandhi OF THE SENTINEL STAFF By Bob Levenson OF THE SENTINEL STAFF know how many children would have been abducted, if they would have been harmed or if Price has previous kidnapping convictions. "This is another case that points out the necessity for parents to supervise their children at all times," Means said. "There are always 6- to 8-year-old kids running around without supervision and it is not difficult for people like William Price to pull something like this off." Means said the informant, who was supposed to keep custody of the children until ransom was paid, told sheriffs officials about the plan May 27. With the agent and the informant, Price drove to the laundry Friday night, Means said. With the informant acting as lookout, Price and the deputy watched from the car for potential victims, he said.

Price was arrested after telling the depu-ty it was time to act, Means said. A knife was found in his possession. A Winter Garden man has been arrested by Orange County deputy sheriffs and accused of planning to kidnap children to ransom them for $10,000 each. William Price, 26, 1156 Jernigan Court, was arrested Friday night by an undercover deputy outside the Ocoee Coin Laundry, 425 W. Silver Star Road, Ocoee, sheriff's spokesman Randy Means said Monday.

Price was charged with criminal conspiracy and soliciting to commit kidnapping, and with carrying a concealed weapon. He was being held at Orange County Jail Monday night on $3,000 bond. Means said Price planned to kidnap children from 6 to 8 years old, but the scheme was foiled by a confidential sheriff's informant. Means said he did not Two Volusia County maintenance workers were arrested by federal agents Monday and charged with illegally possessing and selling unregistered machine guns. The arrests capped a four-month investigation of illegal gun dealing by the two men, said Mike Heger-feld, resident agent in charge of the U.S.

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms' Orlando office. Earnest M. Gallenkamp, 48, was arrested at his home in DeLeon Springs after ATF agents bought three unregistered machine guns from him late Monday morning, Hegerfeld said. Zachary Whitney, 28, of DeLand, was arrested at work in Daytona Beach. Hegerfeld said two ATF agents, Charles Fuller and Dennis Butler, bought seven guns from the two, including three Uzi 9mm's, two M-l carbines, an AR15 assault rifle and a Tec-9 machine pistol.

All were converted for automatic fire, Hegerfeld said. Buying certain machine guns is legal under federal law if the guns are registered, but none of the guns ATF agents bought were registered, Hegerfeld said. "These are the type of people who sell to narcotics dealers, terrorists and far right organizations." Gallenkamp and Whitney were charged with the possession and transfer of unregistered machine guns, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail and a $10,000 fine.
