The 29-year-old co-captain of the JCLA track team, in a post-fea- ure of the Mt. San Antonio Re- ays, scored a total of 9,121 points n the wind-up Sunday of the two- day, 10-event grind. Erased from the books was the 8,683 points that the incomparable later Johnson, himself a former UCLA track captain, set in Eugene, Ore., July 7-8, 1960. Aftr seve events midway Sunday Yang trailed by 411. Then came the pole vault and Yang scaled 15 feet 10%. This was worth 1,515 points and sent Yang in front of the Johnson total at that point. Next was the javelin throw, like the vault one of C. K.'s better events. He needed a mark of at least 212-10% to break Rafer's record total by one point. Yang's first throw sailed an unofficial 221 feet. The next was about 228. The third, the only one officially measured, was 235-5 and added 1,040 points.
