WEDNESDAY, JULY 1, 1942. THE POSTVILLE HERALD, POSTVILLE, IOWA. PAGE FIVE. Flossie Moon Is Married To Fred C. Ruckdaschel.

In a double ring ceremony Miss Flossie Moon, daughter of William Moon of Farmersburg, and Fred C. Ruckdaschel of Postville, were married Thursday afternoon in the St. Paul's Lutheran church by the Rev. F. Ludwig.

The altar was decorated with garden of blue delphinium and white hydrangea, Mrs. Arthur Moon of Monona presided (it the organ and accompanied Ernest Moon his daughter, Shirley, also of Monona, who sang; "I Love You Truly." The bride wore a redingote-slylcd street length dress of medium blue alpaca. Her corsage was of pink roses and snapdragons and her accessories of navy blue. Attendants to the couple were Mr. and Mrs.

George Henkes of Farmersburg, uncle and aunt of the bride, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Oldng, brother-in-law and sister of the bridegroom. Sally Ann and Patricia Ruckdaschel were flower girls. Ushers were Virginia Oldag and Darlene Ruckdaschel.

A reception was held in the church parlors immediately following the ceremony. Later Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lubke honored Mr. and Mrs.

Ruckdaschel at a dinner in their home. The couple will make their home in Postville where Mr. Ruckdaschel is in the garage business. The Henry Karmauses Observe 33rd Wedding Day. Mr.

and Mrs. Henry Kamaus of route three, Postville, were married 33 years ago June 19, and since all of their children could not be present on that day, the observance of the occasion was aot held until last Sunday. The couple's children and their families as well as other relatives and friends came to the Karmaus home with baskets of eats and a picnic dinner and supper were served to the group, the entire affair being a genuine surprise to Mr. and Mrs. Karmaus.

Former Postville Boy Is Married At Waukon. Erwin Miene, son of Mr. and Mrs Henry Miene of Waukon, former Post township residents, and Miss Mildred Brandsmeier, daughter of Mrs. Mathilda Brandsmeier of Waukon, were married Friday at the home of the bride's mother. The Rev.

F. E. Stucki officiated at the ceremony. Attendants to the couple were Ruth Seig and Leo Klocke. The young couple will make their home on the Brandsmeier farm.

Schroeder Family Reunion Held At Waukon Sunday. The annual Schroeder family reunion was held Sunday in the Waukon city park, with 72 attending. They were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schroeder, Mr.

and Mrs. Louis Schroeder and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ed F. Schroeder, Mr.

and Mrs. Harold Schroeder and children, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Harnack and sons, Mr. and Mrs.

David Meyer, Mr. and Mrs. John Kolirs and Donald, Mr. and Mrs. Silas Kohrs and Charles, Mr.

and Mrs. Harlan Harnack and Clifford, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Brainard and family, Gladys Barnes, Mrs. Fred Schara and Jack, Mr.

and Mrs. Elmer Meyer and children. Glen Pixler, all of Postville. Arbie Schroeder and Karen of Clermont; Mr. and Mrs.

Bill Irwin of Wellman; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Monroe and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Schultz, Mr.

and Mrs. William Schave and Vera, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Brainard and children, Rita Knuppe, Virginia, Betty Charlotte and Curtis Strien, Mr. and Mrs.

Willard Meyer all of Caslalia; and Virginia Moore and Karen Linkart of Littleport. Letters from Mr. and Mrs. Christian Schroeder, Dr. and Mrs.

Milo Schroeder of Redlands, and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Schroeder of Marshfield, who were unable to attend the gathering, were received by Mrs. John Kohrs. Chris Schroeder was a former resident of this community.

Announce Engagement Of Miss Jean Horgan. Mr. and Mrs. John E. Horgan of this city announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Jean, of Cedar Falls, to Mr.

Harry J. Carney, of Pittsburgh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry J. Carney of New Hampton, Iowa.

OUR MEN IN THE ARMED FORCES Local Couple Is Feted On Wedding Anniversary. A surprise party honoring Mr. and Mrs. Elbe ChristoiTerson on their four teenth wedding anniversary was given Sunday evening at the home of Mrs. Ethel Meyer, sister of Mrs.

Christoffer son. A picnic supper was served to the following guests: Mr. and Mrs. Harvey ChrislofTerson and family. Mr.

and Mrs. George Kohl- maim and Elizabeth, Henry Sebastian, Kalhryn Garrett. Mrs. Minnie Backhaus. Mary Putzier, Mr.

and Mrs Leonard Chrisloffcrson. and Bcrnadine Meyer, all of Postville; Mr. and Mrs. Lorenz Reinhardt and sun, Mr. and Mrs.

Albert Backhuus of Luana, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dahins and Lorene of Castalia. Both: Miss Horgan and Mr. Carney are graduates of Iowa State Teachers College.

At present Miss Horgan is a member of the teaching staff of the Iowa State Teachers College Campus School and Mr. Carney is employed in the Claims Department of The Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, of Pittsburgh, Pa. The wedding will be in September and the couple will make their home in Pittsburgh. ifc Local. Legion Auxiliary Cited For Meritorious Work Eastern Stars At Monona.

About twenty members of Postville Chapter, No. 238, Order of the Eastern Star, were at Monona last Friday night to attend a "Friendship" meeting. Honor Mrs. Ida Brandt At Birthday Supper Party. A picnic supper complimenting Mrs Ida Brandt on her birthday anniversary was held Sunday at her home.

Those attending were Mr. and Mrs Hurry A. Nefl' and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Grimes and son of West Union; Betty Lou Brandt of Dccorah; Mr.

and Mrs. Ray Brandt and Kenneth, and Betty Burns of Waukon: Mr. and Mrs. Pat Brandt, and Mrs. Phoebe Madorin and son, Roland, of Postville.

When the American Legion Auxiliary met at the home of Mrs. Fred J. Miller last Wednesday afternoon they learned that the local Unit had received national citations for meritorious services rendered during 1941 and 1942. Eighteen members and one guest were present at the meeting. Reports on the Tri-County meeting held at Ossian June 9 were given by Mrs Harley Hills, Mrs.

Victor Williams and Mrs. Albert Bertelson. The following nominees proposed for the offices of the local unit for the coming year were elected: J. T. Humphrey.

Vice John A. Palas. John Burrow. Fred J. Miller.

Ed F. Schroeder. Gilbert Folsom Mrs. Humphrey gave an account of her recent trip to New York City and other eastern points. Plans were made for the annual family picnic which the Unit decided to hold sometime during July.

Reports of the visit of Eugene Schutte and Francis Kneeland to Boys State at Grinnell will be given at the picnic, was announced. These boys represented the local community at this annual event. At Dutch Harbor During Bombing. Private Eugene Collins of Luana has written his mother, Mrs. Minnie he is now stationed at Dutch Harbor, Alaska, where he has been since April 10.

He stated that he is O. K. after the bombing by the Japs of that U. S. outpost.

The letter required 20 days- to reach Luana. Petty Officer Shafer Cole. Shafer Cole is now a petty officer in Uncle Sam's Navy, according to word received here by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Harry Cole.

Shafer is located at Norfolk, Virginia, where the promotion boosts him from a seaman first class to petty officer third class. Ellis Is Radio Operator. Murray Ellis is now a radio operator Naval Radio Station at Jupiter, Florida, according to word his mother, Mr 1 Pauline Ellis, received Monday morning. Murray was graduated at the head of his class in the radio school at Indianapolis, recently and is a petty officer, being classified as a radio operator, third class. Hears From Son In Ireland.

Private Alton Henkes, who is with the American Army in northern Ireland, has written his mother, Mrs. Louise Henkes, at Luana, that he is now receiving his mail and is enjoying week end leaves. He was in Belfast over a recent week end and had a good time. He said he saw a good show which was put on at their camp. The letter was dated May 26.

Gunderson Is Sergeant. Lyle Gunderson had a pretty good hunch when he wrote us last week that he was expecting to be promoted to sergeant. In a letter to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gunderson, he writes that hereafter he will be addressed' as Sergt.

Bn (S L) Orlando Air Base, Orlando, Florida. Harold C. Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.

C. Brown of this city, has been transferred to the U. S. Destroyer Base at San Diego, according to word received here this week. Harold is in the U.

Stanley Schroeder telegraphed his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed F. Schroeder, Sunday that he is now stationed at New York City with the U. S.

Navy. He said he had his first look at the Statue of Liberty, but didn't say from which side, which would be revealing a naval secret. Former Postville Boy Marries. David Henry, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Earl Henry of Cresco, former Postville residents, was married to Lillian Vaala of Lawler at El Center Valley, Yuma, Arizona, on Sunday, June 7. Mr. Henry is Ordnance Instructor at the naval ah- station at San Diego, and his wife is a former teacher in the rural schools of Chickasaw and Howard counties. Help, Fellows, Help! William Kenney, son of Mr. and Mrs. K. E. Kenney, former Postville residents but now living near Waukon, left last week for Des Moines where he enlisted in the U.

S. Navy. He is now stationed at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, with Co. 465. Is Now Private First Class.

Robert Martindale, stationed at Fort Ord, has been advanced to Private First Class according to word received here by his mother, Mrs. Gunda Martindale. Among the boys from Fayettee county inducted into the army last week were William Burrow and Joseph I. Olson of Clermont. Both are well known here.

Don Martindales who has been the attendant- at the Burr Cook service station for the past several years, resigned last Saturday night to take a brief. vacation before reporting for army induction. He is in the July 7 call from Allamakee county in which 39 men have been notified to go to Fort Des Moines. Don's brother, Robert, is now stationed at Fort Ord, in the 107th Cavalry. Both are sons of Mrs.

Gunda Martindale of this city. Technical Sergeant Leslie Pedersen, who had been stationed at Salt Lake City, Utah, orders his Herald sent to Geiger Field, Spokane, hereafter, where he is now located with the 163rd Q. M. Plat. Serv.

Ben Lange of Postville; Mr. and" Mrs. Wilson Lange, Nancy and James of Decorah, and Mr. and Mrs. Merle Lange of Castalia.

Honor Don Martindale At Family Dinner Party. Donald Martindale was the guest of honor at a family gathering in the Adolph Larson, home in Waukon Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Burr Cook and Karen, Mrs.

Gunda Martindale and Donald Martindale were among the fen families present. Club Members, Husbands Entertained By Masonhalls. Mr. and Mrs. Winfield Masonhall entertained the latter's club members and their husbands at their home on Saturday evening.

Following a season at cards, refreshments were served to the group. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Gregg entertained at their home Sunday with a picnic dinner in honor of- the birthday anniversary of Mrs. C.

R. Winn of Castalia, mother of Mrs. Gregg. The guests were Mr. and Mrs.

John Gregg, Mrs. Lydia Gregg and Mr. and Mrs. C. R.

Winn and John of Castalia. The Contract Bridge Club met Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Erwin L. Klingbeil and after the conclusion of the playing prizes were awarded to Mrs. L.

O. Koevenig and Mrs. Arthur J. Palas. The hostess served refreshments to the group at the close of the afternoon.
