McKnight previously was cited as the Outstanding Player on the greater New Orleans All-Metro team as well as the LSWA's Class 2 A All-State" team. The award, initiated in 1995, was presented to running back Charles Scott of Jonesboro-Hodge in 2005. McKnight is the third New Orleans-area honoree, joining Jesuit running back Chris Markey in ol. ctua uuttu LeJeune (5-9, 200, Eunice's Lance Faul (5-9, 220, Corley (5-10, 260, Sr.) and Port Barre's Dylan Roberie (5-8, 195, First team Corley kicker was Eunice's Josh Duran (5-9, 175, Sr). The Bobcat senior special teamer was zt-of-27 in extra points and drilled 5-of-10 field goals, including a 47 yarder against Church Point.

Duran was selected as Class 4-A kicker, but he also averaged 40.4 yards per kick as the Bobcat's punter. First team Athlete was Opelousas Catholic's Tommy Hebert (5-9, 155. Hebert drilled 20-of-33 kick-offs into the endzone, while making 21-of-23 extra points to earn Class 1-A All-State honors. The Viking senior was 3-of-7 in field goals. Hebert missed most of the season on offense, fighting to come back from off-season shoulder surgery, but returned in district to his starting quarterback position for the Vikings.

Besides All-State Thomas highlighting the parish defense, there were several other standouts that performed well for their respec tive teams. Opelousas High's Marshall Harris (6-3, 230, Sr.) was named to the first team defensive line. The first team defensive secondary is led by Opelousas Catholic All-Stater Tim Taylor. Taylor (5-10, 165, Sr.) was a utility player for the Vikings as he saw action at quarterback, wide receiver, running back and defensive back this season. Taylor finished with 18 solo tackles, three assists, four intercep tions, 12 pass breakups and 1 Taylor torced fumble. On offense, he gained 831 yards on 11 carries with 12 touchdowns; caught 16 passes for 303 yards and three scores and completed 2-of-4 passes for 59 yards and a touchdown. The other defensive backs were Beau Chene's Shaq Bel- son (6-0, 205, Port Barre's Jacorey Boast (5-9, 155, Kaleb Deshotel (5-8, 165, Sr.) from Eunice.

McKnight scored 182 points in 14 games. As a junior, because of Hurricane Katrina, McKnight started the 2005 season with Class 1A state champion Evangel Christian of Shreve-port and completed it with 2A champion Curtis. Considered one of the premier players in the nation and in Curtis' history, McKnight will take part in the U.S. Army All-Star game in San Antonio, Texas on Jan. 6.

"You could certainly put him in the category with the greatest players we have ever had here," said Coach J.T. Curtis. "Visually, he has very good instincts.
