S. commissioner on charge of transporting a stolen Car across state lines. James Lewis Otney, who flet from Wichita, Kan., officers in a burst of gunfire April 8, wa found hiding in a tool shed be hind an Oklahoma City home. He was unarmed and offeree no resistance when FBI agent apprehended him. U. S. Commis sioner William Page set bond |100,000, and ordered a remova hearing for May 3. A Wichita detective served a forgery warrant from Texas on Otney April 8, but Otney fled when he was given permission to close his car windows. He exchanged shots with officers then, and later as he sped through Augusta, Kan. Dozens of officers combed a wooded area hear Augusta after he abandoned his car. Otney's capture relieved to some extent the nerves of residents of northeast Sedgwick County, Kan. He escaped a few miles from where Earl Bowlin and a woman believed to be Bowlin's wife were •found slain last Saturday. A service station attendant was found slain in the vicinity Thursday. Although the escape and the slayings have not been connected, the events served to bring a bad case of jitters to most residents of the area. Verona May Head Exiles MIAMI, Fla. (AP)-Dr. Manuel Antonio de Varona, who has devoted most of his life to fighting oppressors of the Cuban people, 'merged today as a guiding force n the Cuban Revolutionary Council's struggle for survival. Despite his recent statement that he would not accept election as council president, succeeding Jose Miro Cardona, Varona is considered a strong choice to head the exile body. Varona acted as council spokesman Thursday night after the group accepted resignations of Miro Cardona and eight other members during a four-and-one- half-hour session. Steel Firm Rescinds Price Hike CLEVELAND (AP) — Republic Steel Corp. said today it has rescinded its price increase of $4.50 a ton on steel plates, which was among the selective price hikes announced by the firm Monday. Other increases — averaging $5.34 a ton on some carbon steel products—announced by the nation's third largest steel producer remain in effect, Republic said. A company spokesman said the increase on plates was rescinded in order to strengthen the firm's competitive position in that field. He pointed out that other major producers of steel plates did not include that product in their selective price hikes announced later "and obiously we couldn't sell many plates at a $4.50 increase." All creditors are notified to exhibit their demands against the said estate within nine months from the date of first publication of this notice as provided by law, and If their demands are not thus exhibited, they shall be forever barred.
