m. WALR operates with 100 watts power on the 1210 kilocycle channel. This would put the new Akron station on the dials in a spot about midway between WTAM and WADC. Full time on the air is enjoyed by the WALR license and if the transfer is approved, it would give Akron two full time stations. WADC is a full time station.

Time on the air was shared by WFJC with Wittenberg college station at Springfield. One other Akron application for a radio station is before the commission. It is that of L. J. Calli-nan, former WFJC manager, who asks for a new station of 100 watts to operate on the 1500 kilocycle channel.

Another romance In the big time radio was revealed this week. Cupid had been working evenings around the CBS studio and as a result, the engagement Is announced of Adele Visa, popular soprano, and Paul Greene, night manager of CBS. They met through their work. Incidentally, Adele will be featured on the Columbia Christmas Eve Carol service program from midnight to 1 m. And that isn't so far away particularly if your shopping isn't started.

Music is claiming less and less of the radio spotlight, a summary from NBC of its time on the air in November, shows. One-fourth of the time of the two stations, WEAF and WJZ, keys for the Red and Blue networks, was devoted to education, religion, drama and special events. This in a total of 547 hours for WEAF and 525 for WJZ. In the musical broadcasts, popular, standard repertoire and all types of dance music, was offered two to one over classical, Now that the football broadcast season is on the verge of being history, Ted Huslng, the Columbia ace sports announcer, tips off several hundred fans to a big disappointment. Each week dozens of fans go home from the game confident their voice has been on the air, Husing said.

"People make a point during the halves, of strolling by the microphone in the press stand and shouting something in it as they pass. "They don't know that an engineer is standing by just for the purpose of shutting off the mike on such occasions." It is an endless if you are to believe Max Smollen, director of the Evening in Parts orchestra. Fopuiar Ballads," he says, "as many of us know, are often built upon an aria of theme from a symphony or opera. And often times a clever arranger will take the popular song and turn it back into a symphony." Frances Starr, well known actress, will speak on "The Life of Elizabeth Barrett Browning," over a Columbia network today at 4 o'clock as part of the annual Christmas seal sale of the National Tuberculosis association. Perhaps you listened in on the Gene and Glenn special song shop program Saturday night and the wee-small hours Sunday.

They'll continue to present them each Saturday night until Christmas, It was announced today.
