The Weather In Carroll Stocks Higher in Fairly Active Trade NEW YORK (AP) The stock market, with investors reported encouraged by its ability to keep its technical rally going, continued higher early this afternoon in fairly active trading. The Dow Jones industrial average at noon was 5.23 at 885.92. Gains led losses by better than 450 issues. Brokers said the market's early action "looked pretty good" but cautioned that it could be blunted by the approaching long weekend. The exchanges will be closed Friday for the Fourth of July holiday.

Many investors, brokers said, become cautious before weekends because they think there could be developments during the period that might affect the market when it reopens. Steels, motors, utilities and electronics mostly were fractionally higher. Aircrafts and rails were mixed. Sperry Rand paced the New York Stock Exchange active list, as 13 of the 20 active advanced, 6 declined, and 1 was unchanged.
