' Thousands of Louisiana Gulf Coast residents, driven 7j.h high ground by Debra's 80 ; fnph gusts and high tides, ;began returning to their Hibmes Tuesday. Little -damage was caused in the coastal areas. But rain squalls drifted ' frorth, hitting areas near the junction of Mississippi, Arkansas and Tennessee. Eloise Sharp, about 50, died in her mobile home near Crystal Springs, Miss., when a tornado slammed it . against trees. Sheriff Earl Guess said several other persons including Mrs. Sharp's 69-year-old mother suffered cuts and bruises. The death brought to two j the number of people killed by the storm. An oil worker -was drowned when he was knocked from an offshore rig Monday by 15-foot waves. Other twisters were sighted near the northwest Mississippi towns of Stark- ville, Springdale, Cedar Bluff, and Flora. Violent winds uprooted trees in downtown Little Rock, Ark., and damaged homes on the outskirts of West Helena, , Ark. An official at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis, operating on emergency power, said 21 persons had been brought to the hospital from the tornado scene but only one was injured seriously enough to be admitted. Power was knocked out in a 4-square block section of the Whitehaven area near Memphis International Airport. Officials cut off gas supplies to the area. Power poles were uprooted or knocked askew and lines littered the rain-swept streets. At its strongest, Debra drenched low-lying south-: west Louisiana with more than 6 inches of rain and sent residents of storm-wary Cameron Parish to relatives or shelters on high ground ' But in Arkansas, Debra brought relief to wilting crops, scorched lawns and from temperatures In the 100s, dumping up to 5 inches in south and east Arkansas. Agronomist Ruel Nester of the University of Arkansas extension service said the rain was timed perfectly to boost the state's soybean crop. "It's too early to say how much the rain will be worth, but if it increases yields an average of one bushel per acre on the state's 4.8 million soybean acres, it would raise the crop's value by $30 million," he said. Showers and thunderstorms spread throughout the lower Mississippi and Ohio Valleys.
