MW FLoRJDA A-2 The Orlando Sentinel, Tuesday, October 30, 1 984 Forecast for Tuesday, 7 p.m. Expected high temperatures 3 ASSOCIATED PRESS 5C- 40 30 An I Seattle i nn Ty 5Q I LA TVi inda McCartney Diane Sawyer Boy George Unseasonably warm weather prevailed once again over a large part of the Eastern Seaboard with more record high temperatures, while cold, snowy weather dominated the northern Rockies. Record highs for the date included 77 at Baltimore; 85 at Jacksonville; 78 at Providence, R.I.; and 85 at Richmond, Va. On Sunday, Baltimore had a record of 83. Relief was on the way for parts of the East as a cold front stretched from New England to south-central Texas and was edging eastward.

Cold, blustery weather prevailed across parts of the northern Rockies as another vigorous storm system swept across the northern states. For today, scattered thunderstorms were forecast over the lower Mississippi Valley and central Gulf Coast region, with showers over a large part of the Carolinas and mid-Atlantic Coast region. Widespread rain was forecast from southern New England through much of the Great Lakes and lower Missouri Valley region. lHahaasTT Tl CLEAR STORMS FLURRIES CLOUDS RAIN SNOW BACKED BY THE BOSS SINGER BRUCE Springsteen, saying his father was sometimes unemployed with no place to turn to for help, is helping a food bank for the needy operated by a group of steelworkers. His donation: $10,000.

The donation came after George Cole, director of the Steel-workers Oldtimers Foundation, presented the singer with a steel-worker's hat before his concert at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles on Thursday night. Springsteen, whose songs often focus on the life of the blue-collar worker, also asked the 15,500 people in the audience to donate to the food bank. Collected: $900. Springsteen has made donations to food banks and other community projects in several cities on his nationwide tour. THE PRICE OF SUCCESS BILL COSBY says he would have known his new television series, The Bill Cosby Show, was a success even if he didn't look at the ratings.

The tipoff: Rumors. One that particularly annoys him says he and co-star Phylicia Ayers-AHen are so at odds with each other that they are not speaking. He also says he is beginning to see the building of resentment toward the series from the industry on the West Coast because the show is shot on the East Coast. "Hollywood directors say we can't keep up the quality of our series, that we're wearing writers out," Cosby says. "Well, the fact is we're smiling here." COLLEGE TOWN BRITAIN'S PRINCE Charles ar-rived Monday at Trieste, Italy, to participate in a special ceremony. His mission: To inaugurate the third academic year of the United World College of the Adriatic. The prince praised Trieste's "historic tradition of longstanding tolerance of diverse cultures and of its ties with the world of politics and international commerce." At the ceremony: Prince Karim Aga Khan and Armand Hammer, chairman of the board of Occidental Petroleum.

Hammer is a chief backer of the United World College in the United States. Background: The 170-student college is one of six United World Colleges aimed at fostering international understanding. The other colleges are located in Wales, Swaziland, Canada, Singapore and the United States. TAKING AIM THE REV. David Diamond, a Baton Rouge, minister who claims he helped cancel a concert by Ozzy Osbourne, has set his sights on another rock group.

Next target: Boy George of Culture Club. Diamond is arranging for protesters to attend a Halloween night concert by the band at the Lousiana State University Assembly. His reasoning: The center is supported by tax dollars and should not allow a show by a "self-professed drag queen." Odrie Ortego, LSU vice chancellor for business affairs, said there has not been a lot of protest and the show will go on. Diamond is undaunted. His quest: A ban on all rock concerts.
