T. U. The Woman's Christian Temperance Union celebrated the anniversary of the crusade in the High Street Church of Christ laBt evening. An audience which comfortably filled the large auditorium was in attendance: The platform was tastily decorated with pretty cut flowers while American flags were arranged at the rear, making the sight a very attractive one. Mrs.

G. C. Berry, president of the local union, presided at the meeting which was very interesting and entertaining. An extensive programme had been arranged for the anniversary and it was rendered very satisfactorily. The exercises opened with a well-rendered organ voluntary by Mrs.

A. E. Heintselman. Mrs. Berry then led in prayer after which all joined in singing "All Round theWorld theRibbon White is Twined." This was followed by an appropriate recitation by Miss Leo Stillson.

Miss Stillson is a very pleasing reciter and rendered the selection in a highly creditable manner. "Saloons Must Go," was the title of a song rendered by a chorus of children in a very clever manner. Mrs. 0. Capron, president of the Y's then read a Scripture lesson from the 14U Psalm.

Mrs. H. C. Cha3e delivered a short but pleasing address after which all joined in singing "If to the Wind's Fears." MrB. Hammond, of Cleveland, editor of the Messenger, the State organ of the union, addressed the meeting.

Mrs. Hammond is a highly educated woman and her address last evening was eloquent and able. She spoke at length on the work of the union, exemplified its aim in a very elaborate manner and made an earnest appeal for the good of the cause. Following Mrs. Hammond's address new members were received.

The names of 12 ladies were enrolled last evening and many niore expressed their intention of becoming members in the near future. Novel and Unique Observance of a "Wedding Anniyt rsary Other Events In response to invitations issued by the children of Mr. and Mrs.

Andrew Jackson, about 49 friends gathered at the Jackson residence, Mill and Union streets Saturday evening to assist in observing the 37th anniversary of the marriage of the host and hostess. The invitations termed the occasion a "spook lunch." It was a strangely novel and unique affair. Each guest was handed a divided skeleton with the request to make a complete one, and repair to the dining-room. This room was very appropriately arranged for such an occasion. Numerous skulls and cross-bones decorated the walls, ceiling and chandeliers and several rare etchings of other regions with messages to.

prominent physicians among the guests. were placed in frames of black and white. Seated on a raised dais a ghastly company of musicians discoursed music suitable to the occasion. A feast, unique in character, was served by goblins in weird fantastic dress. The entire scene was illuminated by tallow dips.

As the feast proceeded the lights were extinguished one by one by a gust of wind from "Spookdom" until the guests were left in total darkness, each change was strange and bore its impression of ghoatliness. The guests were in a state of constant expectancy and wonder. The party was truly a charming, novel success. Winter Picnics. Mr.

and Mrs. Asa Hanscom entertained the Unity club at their resi dence on Weft Market street last night. About 50 guests were present. The evening wai an enjoyable one, the time being spent in social games and conversation. The club styles these gatherings "Winter picnic3."
