Sentinel Sunday, Nov. 2, 1975 Miami 'Pretty Bad' In 21-7 Loss To Boston College By STEVE WULF Sentlntl Star Special Writer CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. Somebody had the impudence to ask Joe Yukica, Boston College coach, if Miami was now the best 1-5 team in the country. Yukica feinted the question by saying, "They are a good physical team and very quick." Miami looked neither physical nor quick Saturday. In fact, the Hurricanes didn't look anything but awful in losing to the 21-7, before 25,331 at BC's Alumni Field.

Ci Miami Coach Carl Selmer sat at the end of a deadend corridor in the visitors' locker room after the game. His predecessor and now athletic director, Pete Elliott, came up to him and took his han All Selmer could say was, "I'm sorry, coach. We were pretty bad. No fire." 1SjC i 'iLi iV 41 fe. tf4-rtf' IT ninfi mi mi i 1.

He tossed to Bill Sharpe, the last receiver on the 'Canes depth chart. Glover faded back from the Miami three and uncorked one of those desperation heaves. Off target, it was deflected into the hands of the surprised Sharpe, who finally was hauled down on the BC 31.

Until that point (three minutes to play), Miami's deepest penetration had been to the enemy 45. FROM THERE, Glover passed to Larry Cain of Fort Lauderdale on the two and two plays later Glover scored on a bootleg. Offense, defense even punting shared equal blame for- the loss. Miami had no first downs in the first or third quarter and only 77 yards on the ground. As for third-down 'situations, the Hurricanes converted only one.

Their defense allowed Mike Kruczek, Boston quarterback who led the nation in passing percentage last year, to complete 11 of 13 aerials. And fullback Keith Barnette complemented Kruczek with 104 yards in 30 rushes. Miami had poor field position all day and part of the reason was bad punting by Mike Archer, who had kicked well all season. Archer got one punt off for only five yards (it wasn't blocked, either) and averaged 34.4 per. kick.

Counterpart Jim Walton, on the other hand, punted well and deep. BC opened the game with an aggressive 19-play drive which stalled only because of a holding penalty on the Miami 15. Fred Steinford missed 44-yard field goal but the home forces had served notice on the 'Canes defense. For the next three series, Miami's offense was useless. Meantime, BC got rolling after a 35-yard punt return gave it field position on its own 42.

Miami dug another hole in the third quarter as BC went 41 yards in 14 plays to widen the gap, Barnette nudging the final yard.

Then BC opened the fourth quarterly marching 51 yards to tuck the game away Kruczek sneaking over from the one. Lone bright note for Miami was that kicker Chris Dennis a school record for consecutive PAT's. He made it 32 in a row, but it came after the game was already lost. "We got beat, we got good," said Selmer. "They must have made a million yards- on us." The.Roclti'i SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
