Florida 32801 (305)841-0188 PREPARE FOR OCT. 1314 STATE says Eileen Tell, 16, of Aberdeen, N.J. "He's a lot more colorful and exciting." Winter Park's Mary Dineen, 17, says control of disruptive or obnoxious behavior should come from the player himself, not from tournament officials. "But if a player can't control himself, then they should enforce the rules," she said. "They haven't really started being very strict with the rules uniformly yet, and that would help." George Spiska, 18, of Englewood, says McEnroe's behavior might influence the pre-teen player, but not the older juniors.

"I really think that's the way he pumps himself up," Spiska said of McEnroe. "I don't think it's the way you should play tennis, but I'm not sure you can stop it all together, either." Alex Aitchison, who is National Sports Festival tournament director and chairman and chief executive officer of the Port Washington, N.Y., Ten nis Academy, predicts a decline in boorish behavior on the court. A few weeks ago, Jennifer Goodling of Rollins College was named to the USTA's Junior Federation Cup team. This week she's representing the United States in the 1983 World University Games at Edmonton, Alberta. is is When the final prize money checks are presented to participants at the 1983 U.S.

Open, the USTA will have paid out $8,550,032 to winners of the singles, doubles and mixed doubles since open tennis began in 1968. The 1982 defending champions, Chris Evert Lloyd and Jimmy Connors, are the leading U.S. Open money winners. Lloyd leads with $318,958, and Conner's $256,100 tops the men. JOAN RYAN John McEnroe engineered a brilliant sweep into the final of the All England Championships at Wimbledon this week.

But along the way he picked up a $500 fine for making an obscene remark to a spectator, bringing him close to suspen-. sion from the tennis circuit. No surprise for anyone familiar with McEnroe tennis. He growls and scowls and whines about; everything from questionable line calls to noisy fans. It is just part of his game.

The Ladies Plate is a consolation tournament for women who were ousted in the first and second rounds. Patty Fendick of Sacramento, teamed with Hong Kong's Patricia Hy to win the junior girls title, downing Sweden's Carin An-derholm and Helena Olsson, 6-1, 7-5. Two Australians, Mark Kratz-mann and Simon Youl, won the junior boys doubles, stopping Mihmed Nastase of Romania and Olli Rahnasto of Finland, 6-4, 6-4. Nastase is the nephew of Hie Nastase, a mainstay of the Romanian Davis Cup team. In the men's 35-and-over final, Colin Dibley of Australia downed Britain's Roger Moore, 6-2, 6-2.

The junior girls and boys singles finals will be played today. In the semifinals Saturday, Hy downed Bernadette Randall of Australia, 0-6, 7-5, 6-4, and Pas-cale Paradis defeated fellow Frenchwoman Natalie Herreman, 6-3, 6-2. In the junior boys semifinals, John Frawley of Australia eliminated Karel Novacek of Czechoslovakia, 7-6, 7-5, and Sweden's Stephan Edberg ousted American Patrick McEnroe, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2. McEnroe is the younger brother of John McEnroe. "Junior (as he calls McEnroe) is the steady one.

So I go for a winner every time I hit the ball. If I get two winners, maybe we get a break." McEnroe and Fleming said they expected to continue as the doubles pair of the U.S. Davis Cup team. King in mixed doubles final Billie Jean King, thwarted in her attempt to win the women's singles crown, reached the final of the mixed doubles event Saturday and hoped it would lead to her 21st Wimbledon title. King, 39, and partner Steve Denton beat Charles Strode and Andrea Temesvari, 6-4, 6-3.

In today's final, King and Denton will meet John Lloyd of Britain and Wendy Turnbull of Australia. King, a six-time Wimbledon singles champion, was beaten in the semifinals by Andrea Jaeger. King won her last Wimbledon title in 1979, in mixed doubles. That gave her 20 Wimbledon titles, beating the long-standing record of 19 held by the late Elizabeth Ryan, who won all titles in doubles. 2." McEnroe and Fleming defeated the popular twins, Tim and Tom Gullickson, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. It was a hard-played match with only one service break in each set all the breaks against Tom. "That was surprising," McEnroe said. "Osually Tom is tougher to break because Tim is such a good volleyer." McEnroe will seek to make it a double when he plays unseeded Chris Lewis of New Zealand for the men's title today. Fleming said he feels he is playing better.

He is still suffering from a slight groin pull, and his left shoulder, which he injured two weeks ago, is not fully healed.

McEnroe played and won in the doubles final Saturday while Lewis practiced with his coach, Tony Roche, and other members of the New Zealand Davis Cup team. Lewis, a fitness fanatic, is in the best shape of his career. Another intangible is McEnroe's court conduct. Lewis has never been on court with McEnroe long enough to be distracted, but who knows how he will react to a Mac attack? Sunday is Lewis' second singles match on Centre Court; his semifinal meeting with Kevin Curren was his first. "It's a big occasion," said Lewis.

"All I can do is go in there with the attitude of giving it everything I've got." McEnroe is taking great pains not to be overconfident, since everyone expects him to beat Lewis handily. But he said he felt secure heading into his fourth final. "I feel pretty good about it," said McEnroe. "If I serve and volley as well as I did against Lendl and pick up the rest of my game, I'll be tough to beat." EtiCHMMEC victory over Ivan Lendl. McEnroe has won 36 of the 41 matches he has played at the All England Club.

McEnroe, seeded second, twice has been matched against unseeded Lewis. In 1981, McEnroe beat won, 6-3, 6-4, on cement in Cincinnati. The next year they played on grass at the Queen's Club in London, with McEnroe winning easily, 6-0, 6-2. Lewis, 26, won the Wimbledon junior title in 1975, but he never has achieved similar success on the senior circuit. In 1981, when he won in Munich, one of his two career tournament victories, his ranking rose to 32, but it now stands at 91.

In a dozen tournaments in 1983, Lewis reached the quarterfinals and semifinals once each and has lost in the first round at six events. Last year, Lewis had his best showing in six cracks at Wimbledon, reaching the third round. At Queen's Club two weeks ago, he was beaten in the second round by Steve Denton. He reversed that at Wimbledon, upsetting ninth-seeded Denton in the first round. "Beating Steve gave me a lot of confidence," Lewis said.

Navratilova was serving in the first game of the second set and the score was deuce when Jaeger's tunnybone was tickled.

Navratilova came in behind her serve and dumped a little volley in the forecourt. Jaeger scrambled to reach it and managed to flick ihe ball parallel to the net. Surprisingly, it slithered tiver and dropped to the grass on Navratilova's side of the court. Walking back to the baseline, Jaeger had to hold her hand over her mouth to keep from giggling out loud. She looked like someone who had just pulled "the slickest trick imaginable.

"I didn't expect to reach her shot, but I stuck my racket out with one hand and the ball hit it," Jaeger said, "and then I saw her running for it. When I saw Jhe ball land, I thought it was funny. I knew I had a chance (for a service break) and to have it happen a point like that seemed kinda funny to me." Whatever happened, a different Andrea Jaeger played the remainder of the match. Given an opportunity to win her first game, on Navratilova's serve, 'she made the most of it. After Navratilova missed her first serve at break point, Jaeger moved in and flammed the second serve past a startled Navratilova to break service.

From that point on, although the ultimate result never in doubt, the two women put on an entertaining set of tennis for a packed Centre Court. Jae-ger got her two-fisted backhand, which had been tentative in the opening set, under control and a number of passing shots behind the ever-attacking Navratilova. Navratilova broke service right back, but she needed 4 break points to accomplish it. The best game was the last when Jaeger had 4 break points as Navratilova fought to end the match. Jaeger, after having her returns cut off by Navratilova, changed tactics and began hitting back right at Navratilova's feet.

It seemed to startle her, but Jaeger could not do it when the advantage was hers. The game, set and match ended when Navratilova picked up her serving tempo, first scoring an ace and then ripping two serves that Jaeger could not handle. When the final shot from Jaeger sailed over the baseline, Navratilova smiled and cast a glance to the box where her confidante, Nancy Lieberman, and coach, Mike Estep, were sitting. They were the jfirst two on their feet as an appreciative crowd joined in a standing ovation to the two finalists. i Jaeger got the giggles again when she curtsied to jthe royal box, where the Duke of Kent was the Teigning monarch.

if "I've never been through anything like that," Jaeger said of the royalty. "Most tournaments, if you don't win, you take your check and get out of there. Someone handed me a bouquet of flowers, and I ilidn't know if I was supposed to go, or stay. For winning the singles, Navratilova won $96,000. Another $18,500 for doubles pushed her year's earn-'ivtp to $474,497.
