SECTION TWO DENTON RECORD-CHRONICLE SPORTS DENTON, TEXAS, THURSDAY AFTERNOON, FEBRUARY 4,1954 Denison Bounces Broncos, Ponies Mark Up Number 15 A quintet of Denison basketmen pounded Denton High School's Broncos into a 60-46 defeat at Denison Wednesday night but failed to get their reserves past Coach Zeke Martin's Poay squad who chalked up their 15th win, 43-27. The undefeated Ponies rolled over the Denison reserves guided by the efforts of Charles Strickland who dumped in 13 points for the game's high total. Teammates Jan Smith and Tommy (Red) Black found the bucket for nine points each to tie for second honors on the Pony roster. The Pony five now stand just three games away from a perfect season, but stand face to face with the reserve squads of the district's two leaders, Sherman and McKinney. And the Broncos find themselves in a position to become giant killers as their card also carries the names of the two powerhouses that have dominated the 3-AAA competition this season.

With the Paris defeat suffered by the Broncs last week on the home court, title hopes vanished. But their influence could still be felt in the event of an upset over either of the two leaders who currently ride in a dead heat for the title. Sherman put themselves in the running Wednesday night with a. 5T-43 decision over McKinney in a tilt played in Sherman. Denton's Wednesday night encounter found the Broncos letting the lead slip from them early in the second period, and the resulting point spread could never be overcome.

Ivan Dewbre led the Broncos with his 13 points while Lewis Compton contributed seven.
