Opelousas, Sunday, JulylS, 1979 DAILY WORLD 23 Bronzed Leaved Dahalia Is Popular heat as zinnias and marigolds and, with its compact plants, stands up against rainy, blustery weather. You can dig and save the tubers of 'Redskin' colors that you especially like. CAROLA ANN ANDREPONT Branching Out 'Redskin' dahlia, an All-America Selections Bronze Medal winner in 1975, is earning the affection of home gardeners across the USA and Canada. The combination of mixed color blossoms against a foil of deep bronze foliage attracts compliments whether 'Redskin' is grown in small groups of plants or massed in large beds. Flower arrangers find many uses for the long stemmed double blossoms and the plump, glossy buds.

'Redskin' grows quickly and easily from seeds sown outdoors in early summer, blooming in late summer. Gardeners in short season areas can enjoy bloom nearly a month earlier by starting seeds early indoors. Plants begin blooming when about 1 ft. high and reach 2 ft. by the end of a summer.

Surprisingly, 'Redskin' can endure about as much Household light bulbs up to 25-watts can be used outdoors without protection from the weather. Larger sizes must be shielded or they will break. The average sugar beet weighs about two pounds and stores 14 teaspoons of sugar in its root. Garden Of The Month trimmed grass along the front and sides. Next to the building along the front are plentiful periwinkles in bloom.

Several small shrubs and vine plants also grace the grounds. The landscaping work is a joint project of Gerald Roy and the secretaries. Eugenie, born in 1836, married Etienne Forest (Foret) 6. Onezime, born in 1837, married Malvina Dardeau; 7. Emile, born in 1839, married Marie Louise Lafleur; 8. Adam, born in 1842, married Camille Dardeau; 9. Octavie, born in 1844, married Theodule Vidrine; 10.

Recently I read a very interesting article on the ancestors of American actor and hero John Wayne.

It seems John Wayne (Marion Morrison) was from a long line of heroes, but he died without ever knowing this. When history was being madeJohn Wayne's family was there. I thought of i you genealogy buffs would enjoy reading about the ancestry of this famous man. The Duke's great-great-grandfather, Robert Morrison, was just 15 years old when he fought in the Irish Rebellion from 1791-92, Robert Morrison was a soldier in a Citizen's army called United Ireland. He fought the British to free Ireland and when the movement was put down, Robert was forced to flee for his life to America.

Robert settled in South Carolina in 1801, and later moved to Wayne township in Adams County, Ohio. He was drafted in the War of 1812 and rose from the rank of private to become a brigadier general in the Ohio militia. James Morrison was the son of Robert Morrison and the father of Marion Morrison, John Wayne's grandfather andnamesake. Marion Morrison served with distinction in the Civil War. He was a private serving in the Illinois Infantry Regiment, Company B.

On August 20, 1864 he and his company were assigned repair a series of telegraph lines in the midst of the Battle of Pine Bluff. denly these 12 soldiers were attacked by about 110 confederate soildiers. Eight died instantly, three were captured, but Marion Morrison crawled miles to the banks of the Tennessee River to escape maternal side of Wayne's family had its share of heros, too. His maternal grandfather, Robert E. Brown, fought with distinction in a Kansas Citizens Army against renegade Indians in 1867.

The line of heros goes on and on down to Marion Morrison who we all knew as John Wayne.
