Henry was an ardent supporter of the A merican Revolution and its struggle for independence. But he is primarily remembered for a line from a speech he gave in St. Church in ichmond, Virginia in 1775. In that famous speech, he said, it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may ake; but as for me, give me liberty or give me After the colonies became independent and a constitution for the new ation had been written and adopted, Patrick Henry strongly supported amending the constitution by adding the Bill of Rights, he first of which is: shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise Patrick Henry was a man of faith.

His last will and testament gives significant insight into his beliefs. In he last paragraph of his will, he wrote, have now disposed of all my property to my family; there is one thing more I wish I could ive them, and that is the Christian faith. If they had this, and I had not given them one shilling, they would be rich; but if they ad not that, and I had given them all the world, they would be Thomas Jefferson said, the liberties of a nation be thought secure, hen we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of he founding fathers of his nation gave us the basic principles and ideals that became the foundation of the nation. ow, those basic principles and ideals are under attack. There are those who desire to remove them in order to created a secular ation.

Case after case has gone to the courts, and court ruling have become restrictive. If certain things are associated with reli- ious practices, they are unlawful and those rulings prohibit free of religion. Born Jan. 1, 1923, in yden, Anna was a daughter of the late Olen and Sarah Collett Collins.

She was a former administrator of Green River Rest Home, a hairperson for the Casey County Democratic Party, worked for the late Governor Wallace G. Wilkinson and was the widow of Hall Burris. Survivors include a granddaughter, Alitta Burris (Chris) Evans; a son, Marion Vera) Burris; daughter, Wendy (Allen) Van Lenten; a sister, Kathryn Barnes; four other grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. uneral services were July 21 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. Burial was in Casey County Memorial Gardens.

Clinton L. Cason, 48 Clinton L. Cason, 48, of Eubank, died Friday, July 18, in Cincinnati, Ohio. orn Monday, Aug. 16, 1965, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Clinton was the son of Wilma Martin Cason of Eubank and the late Carl eamon Cason.

He built windows for Vinylmax and attended Polly Ann Baptist Church. He loved video games, playing his guitar, a nd was a collector of many things. Other survivors include three brothers, Michael A. ason, Carl David (Cindy) Cason and Phillip E. Cason; and one sister, Deborah G.

(Kevin) Shrewsbury. Graveside services were uly 22, at Pilot Cemetery with Bro. Kerry Jones officiating. Barnett Demrow Funeral Home was in harge. Gary R.

Cole, 61 Gary R. Cole, 61, of ancaster, died Sunday, July 20 at his residence. Born Sunday, Aug. 24, 1952, in Albany, Gary was a son of Waunola A. Cole of A lbany and the late Warren Preston Cole.

He was a member of Hyattsville Baptist Church, a former treasurer at Good Hope aptist Church and a teacher at Berea Community Elementary. Other survivors include his ife, Rachel McQuerry Cole; a daughter, Abigail Cole; father-in-law, Earl McQuerry; uncle, Gayle (Velma) Pitman; a brother- i n-law, Marty (Donna) McQuerry; one niece; and two nephews. Funeral services were July 23, at Ramsey Funeral Home ith Revs. Gary Durham and John Todd officiating. Burial was in Paint Lick Cemetery.

Charles Cooper, 68 Charles Cooper, 68, of Hustonville, died Sunday, July 20, at the phraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born May 29, 1946, in Casey County, was a on of the late Henry and Nellie Rich Cooper. He was an Army veteran and the widower of Patricia Burton Cooper. urvivors include sons, Robert Edward (Dana) and Charles Edward (LaRanda) Cooper; daughter, Michele (Dwight) Wesley; brother, uddy (Patty) Cooper; and sisters, Frances (Jerry) Zirkel and Brenda (Howard) Begley. Funeral services will be at 1 1 a.m.

Saturday, July 26, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Barnetts Creek Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, July 2 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Wayne E.

Cowles, 70 Wayne E. Cowles, 70, of Stanford, died June 14, at his residence. Born, July 29, 1943, in Goodlettsville, Wayne was a son of the late Anna Mae and Nelson Cowles. He worked as a chef, school bus driver, glass installer and landscaper and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Cowles; sons, Jesse and Billy Cowles; daughters, Lisa Martin and Teresa Wilson; brother, Roy Cowles; sister, Joyce Green; grandchildren; and great grandchildren.

Graveside services were July 21 at Mizpah Cemetery. Hardy Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green was in charge. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 26 at 11 a.m. at the Stanford Nazarene Church. Jesse Dailey, 77 Jesse Dailey, 77, of Lancaster, died Thursday, July 17, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Saturday, July 3, 1937, in Garrard County, Jesse was a son of the late Earl and Maude Davis Dailey. He was a security guard at National Casket, an employee of Lancaster Police and City Sanitation Department and a member of Lancaster Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include sons, Billy (Katherine) and Brian (Tina) Dailey; daughter, Tori Rigsby; sisters, Joyce (Louis) Grimes, Genevieve (Edward) Lamb and Doris (Willie) Lamb; two grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. Funeral services were July 21, at Ramsey Funeral Home. Burial was in Lancaster Cemetery.

Helen Cosby Denny, 90 Helen Cosby Denny, 90, of Lancaster, died Wednesday, July 16, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born May 7, 1924, in Madison County, Helen was a daughter of the late Rev. E.C. and Florence Lowery Cosby. She was retired from American Greetings and a member of New Antioch Christian Church.

Survivors include a son, Billy C. Metcalfe; a daughter, Geraldine Elam; sisters, Burdetta Brown and Etta Taylor; four grandchildren, Tammie (Chuck) McMullen, David (Karen) Amon, Bobby Amon, and Samantha Metcalfe; five great-grandchildren; and one great- great-grandchild. Private graveside services will be held in Richmond Cemetery. Ramsey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Dennis Dillingham, 65 Dennis William Dillingham, 65, died Wednesday, July 16, after an extended illness.

orn April 2, 1949, in Brodhead, Dennis was a son of the late John W. and Irene Dillingham. He was a former employee of the Hayden onstruction Company and a member of the Baptist faith. He was also preceded in death by one son, Farand William Dillingham; and one rother, Darrell Dillingham Survivors include his former wife, Joann Dillingham; daughters-at-heart, Angie (Mick) Creech, Rebecca (Juan) Reyes and Gena David) Sheene; one sister, Doris Ann Dillingham Correll; three brothers, Lonnie (Loretta) Dillingham, Danny (Linda) Dillingham and Harold Dillingham; sister-in-law, Judy Dillingham; ight grandchildren, Tyler, Dalton, Corey, Bo, Vinny, Trevor, Elia and Emilio; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were July 1 9, at McKnight Funeral Home in Crab Orchard with Bro.

Ron Meece officiating. Burial was in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. A ctive pallbearers were Dalton Walls, Tyler McCool, Bo Martin and Timmy, Dalton and Christopher Dillingham. Honorary pallbearers were Corey Walls, revor Sheene, Rick Smith and Jeff, John and Jason Dillingham. Rebecca Ann Eicher, 45 Rebecca Ann Oppliger icher, 45, of Danville passed away Thursday, July 17.

Born Sept. 28, 1968, Rebecca was a daughter of he late John Robert and Norma Elizabeth Deischl Oppliger. Survivors include her hus- band, David Michael Eicher; wo sons, Michael Oppliger of Danville and Timothy Eicher of Kings Mountain; one brother; and one sister. Memorial services will be cheduled at a later date. W.L.

Pruitt in Moreland is in charge of the arrangements. Rose Mary Link Gosselin, 78 Rose Mary Link Gosselin, 78, of Easthampton, formerly of Ottenheim, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at t. Saint Vincent Care Center. Born, April 15, 1936, in Somerset, Rose Mary was a daughter of the late Herbert a nd Genevieve Enderlin Link. She was a medical records technician for the former Northampton State Hospital and a communicant Our Lady of The Valley Church.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond W. Gosselin; sons, James osselin and William Moynihan; a brother, Michael Link; sisters, orothea Schlappi of Ottenheim and Mary Fiske; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were July 19 at uneral Home in Massachusetts. Burial was in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Orville Nelson McGuffey, 81 Orville Nelson McGuffey, 81, of Stanford, passed away unday, July 20, at home. Born Jan. 14, 1933, in Highland, Orville was a son of the late Kelly and Susie Chestnut McGuffey. He a ttended Campbellsville University and the University of Kentucky, was a Navy veteran, a retired employee of IBM Corporation and a member of Highland Methodist Church. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, J.W., Harold, Lloyd, Roy and Doyle McGuffey.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Nancy McGuffey of Stanford; one son, Mike (Sherry) McGuffey of Stanford; one daughter, Barbara (Keith) oung of Halls Gap; one sister, Doris (Don) Coleman of Bradenton, two granddaughters, Julie (Brian) Singleton of Halls ap and Amaya McGuffey of Stanford; two great- grandchildren, Sydney Mullins and Kaylee Grace Singleton; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services were July 23 at Highland Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Don Scilley officiating. Palmer, 72 aniel L. Palmer, 72, of Science Hill, passed away Saturday, July 19, at home in the loving care of his wife, Wanda. orn Dec. 11, 1942, in Barbourville, Daniel was a son of the late Rex G. and Jennie Reed White Palmer Sr.

He was a sales specialist a Lowe's of Somerset, a Navy veteran and a member of Science Hill Church of the Nazarene and Sons of American Revolution. urvivors include his wife, Wanda Vaught Hurley-Palmer of Science Hill; two sons, David (Lisa) Palmer and Dale Jerri) Palmer, both of Somerset; two stepsons, Greg (Cindy) Hurley of Science Hill and Brandon Hurley of Lexington; one rother, Rex G. Palmer of Morning View; one sister, Sally A. Carrigan of Allenhurst, N.J.; two grandsons, Aaron (Katy) almer and Joshua Palmer; and two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth Palmer and Nola Palmer. Graveside services were uly 22, at Beech Grove Cemetery with Bro.

Brian Whitaker officiating. Burial was in Beech Grove Cemetery. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Beech Grove United ethodist Church Cemetery Fund. Morris Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Christine Scheffler, 84 Christine Scheffler, 84, of Crab Orchard, passed away Sunday, July 20, at Golden Living Center in Stanford. Born Jan. 6, 1930, in the Bee Lick community of Pulaski County, Christine was a daughter of the late Melvin and Robeda Ping Blevins. She was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Christine was the wife of Clarence Scheffler whom she married on April 5, 1948.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Earl and Emory Blevins; and two sisters, Martha Aileen Blevins and Irene Russell. Survivor include a son, Don (Barbara) Scheffler of Crab Orchard; a sister, Marie Herst of Maynard, six brothers, Jack Blevins of Crab Orchard, Robert Blevins of Dayton, Ohio, Curtis Blevins of Maynard, Donald Blevins of Lexington, Texas, Douglas Blevins of Reno, and Johnny Blevins of Lexington, Texas; a grandson, Chris (Vicki) Scheffler of Mt. Vernon; a granddaughter, Lori (Adrian) Jolly of Berea; step grandson, Craig (Teresa) Elder of Crab Orchard; three great grandchildren, Jordan Jolly, Ariel and Trevor Scheffler; two great great grandchildren, Paityn Long and Alydia Scheffler; and two step great grandchildren, Danielle and Nicki Elder. Funeral services were July 22 at Friendship Baptist Church with Bro. Darrell Gentry officiating.

Burial was in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. McKnight Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Frances Darlene Shively, 85 Frances Darlene Shively, 85, of Danville, died Saturday, July 19. Born Feb. 1, 1929, in Ohio County, Darlene was a 1947 graduate of Beaver Dam High School.

She lived in Junction City for many years and more recently at McDowell Place in Danville. Darlene was a member of Junction City Baptist Church, a retired supervisor and engineer with South Central Bell and a member of the Pioneers. Survivors include a sister, Alma Lou Hardin; brother, Leslie Shively; a niece, Nancy Hardin Gasparovic; and nephew, Danny Hardin. Funeral services were July 22, at the Junction City Baptist Church with Bro. Dale Denton officiating.

W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland was in charge. Earlene Stamper, 83 Earlene Stamper, 83, of Stanford, died Monday, July 21, at Fort Logan Hospital. Born Jan. 30, 1931, in Blue Diamond, Earlene was a daughter of the late Luther and Allie Ison Spencer.

She was a member of Laurel Missionary Baptist Church, attended Stanford Church of the Nazarene and was the widow of Charles "Sewell" Stamper. Survivors include sons, Kenny (Regina), Dale, Hewey and Randy Stamper; daughters, Linda (Mark) Yocum and Betty (Tim) Pennington; brother, Martin Spencer; sisters, Audrey (Renville) Bush and Geraldine Spencer; 23 grandchildren; and 29 great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be at noon Thursday, July 24, at Spurlin Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Stamper Family Cemetery in Campton..
