A sophomore at North Texas State University, Miss Bloomer, again unlike many Miss Texas hopefuls, didn't lose any weight, or more sleep than during pageant week.

She credits this to her Six Flags job. "Before we opened," she explained, "we spent 12 hours a day in rehearsal. I'm not a dancer, but a lot of the time was spent working out dance routines, so I guess I'm pretty well in condition." The Friday night swimsuit winner, Miss Dallas Linda Lee at the winners' press conference afterward that most Miss Texas contestants exagerate their makeup and hair style during pageant week not only for stage appearances, but during daytime rehearsals as well. But again. Miss Denton was not one of the crowd.

That fact was quite evident during the North Texas State pianist," she stated, "and I hope to go on to professional opera, combined with some popular entertaining." Asked why she chose "The Jewel Song" for her talent entry, Miss Bloomer said, is more difficult to sing well, but I have always liked a challenge and I'm proud of my talent." One of the past customs of The Denton entries in the Miss Texas contest has been a sort of bond between the ex-Miss Dentons, two of whom in the past three years have gone on to be Miss Texas the year after their stint as Miss Denton. With bickering apparently out of the way and the beginning of the 24-game championship still three days away, chess-mad Icelanders continually speculate 'who will win and compare the differing personalities of Spassky and American challenger: Bobby Fischer. Spassky, a Russian, mixes freely and Appears to be just about "everybody's favorite. Fischer has in effect cut himself off. As one of his seconds put it, the 29-year-old New Yorker "lives in his own world." Fischer's actions in turning up late for the match, which was scheduled to have begun last Sunday, and in fighting for more money have hurt his reputation here. "We don't like Fischer," said a Reykjavik waiter.

"He might be a great chess player he is behaving like a child." Spassky, 35, purportedly a journalist, arrived more than Iwo weeks ago and moved into a hotel as just another guest. He goes shopping alone, plays tennis and goes swimming with his advisers but without a police guard. He always has a ready smile for the many fans who want to exchange a word or get his autograph.
