review Loretta's story 'Coal Miners honest and entertaining That Loretta Lynn's life works as a movie is also due in large part to excellent performances by Sissy Spacek (as Mrs. Lynn) and Tommy Lee Jones (as her husband, Mooney), to Englishman Michael Apted's detailed direction (his feel for the coal country grit in the early sequences especially) and to the script of Tom Rickman, a Kentuckian himself. In "Coal Miner's Daughter," she is the essence of Loretta Lynn without looking much like her or without copying exactly her singing style (Miss Spacek does her own singing). FILM: Coal Miner's Daughter RATING: PG (ome profanity) PLAYING: Parkwood, Altamonte cinema The appeal of "Coal Miner'i Daughter" which is based on country singer Loretta Lynn's autobiography of the same name lies basically in its naturalness and, along with that, its honesty. And, unlike most film biographies of entertainers, this one is, indeed, entertaining interestingly, the earlier segments dealing with Mrs. Lynn's childhood in Kentucky coal country and with her marriage at the age of 13 are more fascinating than her subsequent rise to the top of the country music charts, the later suc- Singing star Sissy Spacek stars in the film based on the autobiography of country music star Loretta Lynn.
