t)odgers, Indians swing five-player deal HOLLYWOOD, Fia. (UPD Rick Sutcliffe got his wish to be traded Wednesday. A similar request may soon be granted to All- Styr shortstop Garry Templeton. the 1879 National League Rookie of the Year, asked the Los Angeles Dodgers to trade him last September after he was left off the post-season 25-man roster following a mediocre regular season. The Dodgers finally got around to dealing the 25-year-old right-hander at the baseball meetings Wednesday, sending Sutcliffe and infielder Jack Perorate to the Cleveland Indians for outfielder Jorge Orta and a pair of minor leaguers, catcher Jack Ftariple and pitcher Larry White.

It was one of three major 4 league trades completed Wednesday at the meetings. In other deals, San Francisco swapped outfielder Larry Herndon for pitchers Dan Schatzeder and Mike Chris and Seattle sent third baseman- outfielder Dan Meyer to the Oakland A's for pitcher Rich Bor- dl. A deal involving Templeton of the St. Louis Cardinals and possibly shortstop Ozzie Smith of the San Diego Padres could be finalized today. Both San Diego and Baltimore are hard at work trying to land Templeton.

The Orioles, who have met with the Cardinals' general manager nine times in two days, are prepared to offer pitcher Sammy Stewart, shortstop Bob Bonner and highly-regarded minor league outfielder Jack Shelby as part of a package for Templeton and outfielder Sixto Lezcano. San Diego, however, may offer the Cardinals a better deal. The Padres reportedly are willing to Include Smith and pitcher Steve Mura in a deal for Templeton and Lezcano. The Cardinals, though, may have to come up with a pitcher to complete the trade. In another development Wednesday, the New York Yankees, for the second day in a row, made some news by signing a manager.

On Tuesday the Yankees announced that Bob Lemon would return to manage the club next year and Wednesday they announced that Gene Michael, whom Lemon replaced as manager last Sept. 6, would return as manager in 1083. The Dodgers-Indians trade gives Los Angeles a much needed left-handed bat and some extra bench strength. It also enables Cleveland to add a pitcher to its staff who was one of the best In the NL two years ago. Sutcliffe was a 17-game winner for the Dodgers during his rookie season but slumped badly previous two years, this past season he managed only a 2-2 record with a 4.02 ERA In 14 games.

Orta, 31, gives the Dodgers a strong bat as well as a player with versatility. A lifetime .282 hitter, Orta can play the outfield and. second base and the Dodgers have always liked players who can fill in at different positions. (UPI) Dan Meyer, the last remaining player from the Seattle Mariners' first game in 1977, was traded Wednesday to the Oakland A's for pitcher Rich Bordi. It was one of two swaps the teams made during the annual baseball meeting. Meyer, a third baseman-outfielder, batted .262 with three homers and 22 RBI in 83 games for the Mariners last season. He is the club's all-time leader in games, at-bats, hits, home rUns, runs batted in and total bases in his five seasons since being selected in the expansion draft from the Detroit Tigers. Bordi, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound right-hander, posted a 9-11 record with a 3.68 ERA at Tacoma of the Pacific Coast League last season.

In two games for the A's. in September, he had no decisions. The 22-year-old Bordi was the A's third round pick in the June, 1980, free agent draft out of Fresno State University. Later, the Mariners obtained right-handed pitcher Roy Thomas from Oakland for minor leaguers Rusty McNealy and Tim Hallgren. Thomas, drafted from the Cardinals at last year's winter meetings, was 12-8 with a 3.05 ERA at Tacoma, this year.

McNealy, 23, is a left-handed hitting outfielder who batted .322 with three homers and 48 RBI at San Jose of the California League last year. He stole 63 bases for the Missions and was voted the team's Most Valuable Player. Hallgren, 22, is a right-handed pitcher who was 7-1 with a 2.21 ERA at San Jose in 13 games. He was then assigned to Reynosa of the Mexican League where he was 2-3 with a 4.40 ERA. Giants trade Larry Herndon HOLLYWOOD, Fia.

(UPI) The San Francisco Giants Wednesday traded center fielder Larry Herndon to the Detroit Tigers for left-handed pitchers Dan Schatzeder and Mike Chris. Herndon, 31, a speedster, played nearly seven seasons with the Giants since being obtained from the St. Louis Cardinals in 1975. He batted .288 with 5 home runs and 41 RBI this year. His career average is .267.

Schatzeder, 27, was 6-8 with a 6.08 ERA in 24 games for the Tigers in 1981 with 21 starts. In two seasons with Montreal in 1977 and '78, Schatzeder logged National League totals of 19-13 and 2.91. Montreal traded him to the Tigers in exchange for base-stealer Ron LeFlore, now with the Chicago White Sox. Ali confident he'll win comeback bout NASSAU, Bahamas (UPI) As Muhammad Ali rested in a peaceful villa in preparation for Friday night's comeback fight with Canadian Trevor Berbick, Don King charged rival promoter James Cornelius, who was staging All's bout, with being one of five men that assaulted him in Freeport Sunday. Cornelius, who has had trouble promoting the fight from the outset and faced lagging ticket sales, strongly denied the accusations at a fight party Wednesday night, saying, "That's bull.

I don't know anything about it. I haven't even talked to Don King. I know nothing about it at all." King charged in a statement issued Wednesday that Cornelius, head of Sports Internationale, had also threatened to kill him unless he left the island. King said he had contract with Berbick to promote the Canadian's next fight and had gone to the Bahamas to work out a deal with him. Ali, having finished his training id wanting a break from the pre- fight hoopla before today's 11 a.m.

EST weigh-in, secluded himself at a nearby villa with a few of his close associates and confidently predicted he would win and successfully launch a campaign for a fourth heavyweight title. Ali, who will take on the fourth- Aj ranked, Berbick in a scheduled 10- rounder, watched the tape of Berbick's fight with World Boxing Council champion Larry Holmes last April. Ali will be 40 next month and is entering the ring for the first time in 14 months. Berbick, 22-1 and the only man to go the distance with Holmes in 11 title defenses, said he took the Ali fight because of the money, the exposure and the chance at a title shot against World Boxing Association champion Mike Weaver, who has indicated that he could take on the winner of the fight. That would fit In with All's plan just fine.

"When I beat Berbick, then I'll take on Weaver," said Ali. "I'm not doing this for the money (about $1 million) or to stay in the limelight. I want that fourth title and then that'll belt. I don't need no Holmes or no (No. l-rated Gerry) Cooney.

Weaver's got the title, the one I had." Most boxing experts don't share All's "confidence, primarily because of his poor showing 14 months ago against Holmes, who battered Ali for 10 rounds before All's corner stopped the bout before the nth. Ali, who has always basked in the delight of proving his critics wrong, blamed the loss to Holmes on dramatic weight loss and a thyroid drug he was taking while training. He weighed 217 for Holmes, but says he feels fine now. Berbick, a native of Jamaica who now lives in Halifax, Nova MUHAMMAD ALI 'I want that fourth title' Scotia, is ranked fourth by the WBC and is the Canadian and British Commonwealth champion.
