SO th little sentinel, Sunday. May 10. 1981 11 The purpose of the studio would be to provide experience to those interested in television production. "What I'd like to do is produce educational programs and sell them to public and cable companies," he said. He also said the students would produce programs for the classroom.

TV studio may tune up in fall at Oak Ridge change was made in Federal Communications Commission regulations that required the small 10-watt station, that broadcasts about five miles, to become 100 watts. He said it was financially impossible for the school to expand the station. So David Taylor, student and program director of Oak Ridge's WGAG-FM, came up with an alternative program for the school. Next year, Taylor hopes that he and his fellow students will have their own television production studio. "I think television is a much better means of education for the kids," Taylor said, adding that the students plan to sell some of the radio equipment to buy new tape recorders, television cameras and equipment necessary to run a small studio.

The biggest hurdle, he said, is money. Taylor estimated the students would need about $10,000 to get By SARA ROEN Taylor blames the failure of the radio station on lack of organization and interest as well as the FCC. "We were very varied. We played some rock some public broadcasts, and easy listening. But there was tutti-frutti involvement and never any steady program," "It was a very interesting mixture." All studio work will be done by the students, Taylor said.

The school has provided a large room for them and construction to improve acoustics, lighting and basic renovation will be done by those involved in the project. "What I think we'll try to do is rather than have a class, seven or eight kids will meet and work after school," he said. "That way we can have an interested teacher there also." During their children's homework hours, most parents carry on the tradition of shouting the generation gap's music battle cry: 'Turn off that radio!" But Oak Ridge High School students hear a different tune. Their involvement with radio is a bit unusual. For the past five years, the school has had its own radio station almost completely, run by students.

The station was started by two students who were interested in broadcasting and radio work. As time passed, others became interested and participated in the project. But recently the station was shut down. Jack Howard, teacher and station manager said a the studio started. That money would go for equipment alone.

And they would receive no money from the school because it's considered a special project for which funds must all be earned or donated. Taylor said local businesses already have expressed some interest in helping the students get started. He also said that several teachers as well as students have shown interest in the project.
