Lopez has designs on new gig LOS ANGELES — J.Lo is trying her hand at fashion design. The singer-actress is working with Andy Hilfiger, brother of fashion mogul Tommy Hilfiger, on a new line of women's clothing called "J.Lo by Jennifer Lopez." "Before I used to dance or sing or act in films, I was just redesigning clothes," Lopez said as she debuted the fashion line Thursday at the St. Regis Hotel and Spa in Century City Models — including Lopez — displayed the line of sporty urban wear, which features tight T-shirts and studded jeans. Prices will range from $22 to $850. "We are going to offer clothes that we think are wonderfully designed and will fit women of all sizes," she said. "So from little to voluptuous, everybody gets to be sexy." Survivor contestants just friends RADNOR, Pa. — Former "Survivor" contestant Rodger Bingham says his relationship with fellow castaway Elisabeth Filarski was never more than friendship — even though she raised some eyebrows by calling him her "Outback daddy" "It was never, ever like that," Bingham tells TV Guide Online. "It was like a father-daughter relationship. That's all it was. We got so close out there because she wanted to learn how to fish, so I taught her how. And I sort of took it upon myself to see that she didn't get hurt out there." T ADVICE Sisters share ring that belonged to their father Dear Ann Landers: You recently printed a letter from a daughter who believed her mother should be buried wearing her wedding ring, be- ^ cause "that was the way everyone remembered her." You disagreed, saying family jewelry should be passed down as heirloom pieces, and it made no sense to put them in the ground. How right you were, Ann. When my father died at the age of 83, he had several pieces of jewelry, including diamond rings. The only thing my sisters and I wanted was a small gold signet ring with Daddy's initials that my grandmother had made for him. He wore it every day Mom had loving memories of him taking the ring off at night and placing it carefully on his bureau. ANN LANDERS Creators Syndicate Inc. When Daddy died, my sister took the ring. After two years, I said, "We were all Daddy's girls, and the ring is a remembrance of him. It isn't fair for one of us to have it. We should share it and each wear it for one year." Surprisingly my sister agreed. That Christmas, she gave the ring to me. The next Christmas, I passed it along to my younger sister. We have been doing this for the past 10 years, and each year, the ring becomes more meaningful as a tribute to Daddy and a symbol of unity among his daughters. We have decided that whichever sister lives the longest will get to keep the ring in her immediate family Hopefully it will end up with a great-grandchild who will treasure it as much as we have. — Daddy's Girls in West Virginia Dear Daddy's Girls: Thank you for a beautiful example of sibling unity To paraphrase Benjamin Franklin, "If you want to know the true character of a person, share an inheritance with him." How true. Dear Ann Landers: I disagree with your advice to "Upset by a Copycat Friend Out West," whose friend was pregnant at the same time she was. You told her to get over it and that the timing of the pregnancy was probably a coincidence. Please consider the possibility that "Upset" could be right about her friend. I, too, had a close friend who constantly competed with me at every turn. This went on for several years. "Christina" copied my outfits and hair styles. She decorated her home with the same furnishings as mine, right down to the comforters on the bed. She even bought a car like mine — in the same color. When she found out that my boyfriend was planning to propose, she pressured her boyfriend of three months to get married. Her wedding took place one month before mine. You can't convince me that she didn't do this on purpose. Christina insisted that all her copycat actions were "coincidental," but I know better. I'm sure she suffered from low self- esteem and deep-seated insecurity She imitated me because she didn't believe her own ideas were good enough. Maybe I should have felt flattered, but believe me, it was no fun to have all my ideas stolen and not be able to complain because people would think I was being oversensitive. I finally distanced myself from Christina, and now I share nothing with hen It was the only way I could keep my sanity Please don't brush off a problem like this by making us feel paranoid. They deserve to be clobbered. — The Original in Connecticut Dear Connecticut Original: OK, I agree. Copycats cannot be eliminated, but this column is a pretty good clobber I hope Christina sees it. But find comfort in the knowledge that no imitator ever comes off as well as the original. Write to Ann Landers at P.O. Box 11562, Chicago, IL 60611.
