The firm, headed by Paul Hupp, has expanded through the years and now has stores not only in Chllllcothe but seven other towns In north and central Missouri, Rupp Automotive stores are located in Kirksville, Macon, Maryville, Columbia, Moberly, Brookfield auU Another store has been opened Ir Marshall. The firm, located at 720 Elm street, has always been in the same general area. A Rupp business, in fact was established here in 1900 and was located at this site. The founder, back at the turn of the century, was Peter J.

Rupp, grandfather of today's owner. He was a partner with his brothers, George, Fred and Louis in the operation of the George Rupp and Bros, waste materials i He also operated a coal and wood fuel business in conjunction with the other business. In 1922, Paul Rupp, and his brother, Peter 0. Rupp, now of California, opened the Rupp Bros. Auto Wrecking Co.

in a building a block north of the present location. The business was expanded and moved to its present location within a few years. At a later date, John Rupp and Bernard Rupp joined the firm and it again expanded its operation, entering the wholesale and retail tire field while continuing to handle waste materials. The sale of auto parts began in 1931. In the enterprise was further diversified, entering the wholesale oil and gas business.

In 1943 the company was divided into two separate businesses, John Rupp becoming sole owner of the wholesale oil and gas business and Paul and Bernard Rupp the owners of the auto parts business. Paul Rupp, joined on a full-time basis in November, 1956, and became one of its owners, with his father and his uncle, Bernard Rupp, when the business was incorporated January 1, 1959. The present owner began his duties on a part-time basis while in high school. He also was employed at Rupp Bros, during summer vacation periods while a student at Notre Dame. After graduation from college he served 3'A years in the United States Navy.

New office facilities were installed and office personnel occupied the new" building in that year also. Among innovations in recent years has been the installation of a system of radio communications to connect salesmen with the main store and a direct phone line to Kansas City to provide additional service for Customers. of other stores began in 1961. Paul Rupp, commented today that the tragic, untimely death of Bernard Rupp on October 22, 1968, was a sere-re blow to the organization and that the subsequent death of Paul Rupp, on April 9, was a great shock and to the company.

"His counsel and wisdom were great factors in building the organization," Paul Rupp, Jr, Stated.
