Weldon C. Bares Lea Joyner Memorial United Methodist Church "Gratitude- "First day sold everything. it was a long time ago In Lafayette on New Year's Eve that I conducted a wedding. A very small wedding. Only a handful of people were present that night.

The young couple moved away to Tennessee. But something very unusual is that this couple has sent me a Christmas card every year since the wedding. Uke clockwork, every single year a Christmas card would arrive from Tennessee with a personal word of greeting and Christmas cheer, reminding me of the New Year's eve wedding. As usual, a Christmas card from Tennessee came again this December. But the card this year was different.

The writing Inside the card said, "You married us on New Year's Eve. This would have been 20 years. My husband passed away this year from cancer. We had two beautiful children, Stacy who is 19 and Shane who Is 1 5. We had wonderful marriage.

Thank you. Tina." Tears came to my eyes as I read her note. I thought back to that young couple on that cold Thursday night 20 years ago. They were so excited. A new life was just beginning for them.

And now two decades have passed. Things have changed. Things are different He Is gone. I could feel the sadness In her note. I could feel the Badness, but not bitterness.

Instead, she expressed gratitude. Gratitude for 20 years of marriage. Gratitude for her two children. I'm thankful today for having conducted a small wedding on New Year's eve many years ago. I'm thankful for God's grace and goodness that strengthens us during times of sadness.

I'm thankful for an annual Christmas card from Tennessee. WANTEO MORE WASHERS AND DRYERSI J. C. of Monroe ran this ad as well as an ad selling a portable building and hot water heater in The News-Star and look what happened. sold the washer, dryer portable building on the tlrst day.
