The Taxpayers' Protective aasociatloa met at 4 o'clock yesterday at the office of Mr. J. C. League, but being unable to secure the constituted quorum, the chairman moved that they ncljonrii over until iioxt Monday at the same time. The motion was seconded and adopted, but not before some general "discussion was had concerning the business of the association.

Mr. Joseph. Franklin used a many words to impress the meeting that it should be a part of the duties of the executive committee to get up the proposed petition ret erred to at previous meeting, and present the aame to the city council or the lumrd of appraisers as a means of redress. Mr, Robert Franklin said that such a petition, as suggested by Mr. Joa.

Henry Sayles left this morning with his family for Abilene, where he will make his future home. Mr. Sayles has resided in for twelve or thirteen years, and his departure will be much regretted by his numerous friends. It is understood that at Abilene he will be joined by his father, General John Sayles, of Brenham, who will also make Abilene his home. Artillery Light Guard Benefit.

The Histrionics have tendered the Galveston Artillery Light Guard a benefit, to be given at an early date, to assist the company in the purchase of their new dress uniforms. The performance will be given at Harmony hall within the next thirty days. The city council met iu regular session yesterday afternoon, with Mayor Fulton, presiding and a full board present except Alderiueu Wois and Meuard, who wore, uii motion, excused. NOMINATIONS. City Attorney Finlay made a verbal report "that the contract had not been yet drawn, as the proposition the Wharf company provided to furnish sand at JJ2 centt- per cubic foot, when the council understood it to be 32 cents per cubic yard. Heiad also received no notification officially from the Wharf company removing the restriction of 25,000 cubic yards per annum. In the face of these facts he could not draw up the contract. Alderman Fowler stated that he had been informed that Judge Ballinger would prepare contract on the part of the Wharf company to-morrow.

Alderman Rosenberg was very anxious that this improvement be made at once. Alderman Sherwood did nob object to the work, but desired to go about it in the proper manner, according to the provisions of the charter providing for permanent street improvements.
