The wide receiver did not attend two mini- camp sessions held Friday, despite attending a team meeting the previous night. The Lions have asked Moore to take a pay cut this season to help clear salary-cap space. First-year coach Marty Mornhinweg said he expected Moore to attend the mini-camp, which began Friday morning and ends Sunday "Herman Moore is a professional football player. He's un-, der contract with the Detroit Lions, And I fully expected him to be here, period," Mornhin weg said. Moore has been selected to the Pro Bowl six times, three as a starter, but his production has slipped the past two seasons. The 6-foot-4, 224-pounder had 40 receptions for 434 yards and three touchdowns last season and 16 catches for 197 yards and two touchdowns in an injury-, plagued 1999 season. Those two lackluster seasons came after Moore joined Jerry Rice as the only NFL players to make 100 or more receptions in three consecutive seasons. Moore set an NFL record with 123 receptions in 1995, then caught 106 the next year and 104 in 1997. He became the fastest player in NFL history to 600 receptions, which he did during his eighth season, after 118 games. Team president Matt Millen said the Lions have told Moore, whose base pay is just over $3 mUlion a year, what they want to reduce his salary to. Millen and Moore's agent, Brad Blank, declined to reveal how much of a cut he is being asked to take. If the two sides don't reach an agreement by June 1, it's likely Moore wiU be released along with many veteran NFL players as teams attempt to clear salary-cap space. CFLTO INDUCT WARREN MOON, FOUR OTHERS INTO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME — Warren Moon, the most productive passer in pro football history, is going into the Canadian FootbaU Hall of Fame and Museum. The former Edmonton Eskimo, who went on to throw for more than 49,000 yards and 291 touchdowns in the NFL, wUl be joined by deffenseman James "Quick" Parker, running back Willie Burden and offensive lineman Bill Frank in the HaU of Fame at the Sept. 21 induction ceremonies in Hamilton, Ontario. NEBRASKA GOLF COACH ROMJUE RETIRES — The man who coached the Nebraska men's golf team for 31 years will retire in June. Larry Romjue announced his retirement Friday Romjue's teams made five appearances in the NCAA championships and nine appearances in the NCAA regionals. From 1975 to 1979 he also coached the Nebraska women's team. REEBOK PULLS TV AD WITH ROCKETS' FRANCIS AFTER YOUTH'S ACCIDENT — A TV ad showing Rockets guard Steve Francis leaping over a car was pulled by Reebok International Inc. after a Kentucky teen was hurt trying a similar stunt. Reebok pulled the 30-second "defy convention" commercial from its scheduled slot Thursday on CBS and replaced it witii a spot featuring Venus Williams. The ad that was yanked used computer effects to make it appear that Francis jumped over an oncoming car. A 16-year-old boy from Independence broke his leg and ankle Monday trying to jump over a car driven by a friend while another teen videotaped the action. SWEET PEA WHITAKER'S RING RETURN ENDS WITH INJURED SHbULDER — Pernell Whitaker's return to the ring after a 26-month layoff ended in the fourth round Friday when the former champion hurt his left shoulder and Carlos Bojorquez was awarded the victory Whitaker, 37, winced midway through the second round when he hurt the shoulder He mocked Bojorquez, but was unable to throw anything more potent than a right jab until referee Joe Cortez stopped the bout 27 seconds into the fourth round. It was Whitaker's first fight since he lost a decision to IBF welterweight champion Felix Trinidad 26 months ago.
