Phono 805. HOUSTON NEWS NOTES LEFT BY ESTRANGED WIFE WHO ENDED LIFE WITH POISON. Special to The News. Houston, Oct. Lc- noro Locke, 26, of GOT East 29th, was found dead at 7:30 o'clock this morning with a nolson bottle near her outstretched hand.

In her other hand was clutched a picture of her husband, who had separated from her about a week URO. A vprdict of Huiclde was returned by Justice Campbell Ovcrstreet. Two notes were left by Mra. Locke, one for her husband and one for her foster mother, Mrs. J.

B. Walker of 603 East 29th. who found the dead girl when she went to Mrs. Locke's home this mornlnp. The letter to her husband follows: 'Dear Silas: It IB now.

3 a. m. and I know that you are not coming. Dear Silas, I tried so hard to brlnp you back and life don't mean anything to me without you, and I am a i this way out of It. But always remember I love you.

Lenore." In the other note Mrs. Locke said: 'Don't blame anyone with my death. "Tell mother I thought of her, but It's no use to try to live," the note continued. "And Ruth (daughter of Mra. Walker) you've been pood to me.

Goodby to all and Just remember It Is for the best." In a statement made today Locke said he separated from his wife about a week ngo. Wednesday night Locke- said he went to his wife's home, supper -with her, took her to the theater and after returning her to her home, left her to go to bin rooming house. Mrs. Locke begged him to return to her, Locke said, and he refused, telling her that he no longer loved her. Locke said it was the second attempt at suicide.

Perez, the latter owner of the Crescent Pharmacy and the former a licensed druggist, formerly employed In the pharmacy, went to tho jury today shortly before court was adjourned by Federal Judge W. EeLes. Tho two men are charged with selling paregoric In "excess amounts" to addlcia. Narcotic Inspector Waitc testified that he dressed in old clothes and posed as an addict and purchased paregoric in bottles from two to eight oujices in size on succeastvo days. Two German seamen were convicted and four others, charged jointly, were acquitted of customs and prohibition law violations by a jury which brought in a scaled verdict in federal court this morning-.

The six men were off the steamship Yorch and were accused of attempting to smuggle 125 quarts of liquor and two gallons of wine Into the United States on the night of July 17. Julius Hecht and Ernst Krusc, (he men found guilty, were sentenced to eighty-five days in the Galveston County Jail, and then ordered deported by Immigration officials. The jury received this case yesterday afternoon and after several hours of deliberation returned to the courtroom and declared a verdict could not be reached. Judge Eetes sent the jury back for further deliberation. The four acquitted men were jubilant, hut Hecht was visibly affected by the' verdict.

Special to The News. Houston, Oct. than 300 Houstonlana assembled last night to honor Judd Mortimer Lewis, poet and columnist who was tendered a banquet by the Knife and Fork Club. Kriends nnd associates of Mr. Lowla, better known as Uncle Judd, told of the kindness and gentleness that characterizes his relations with all people, "big and little." Miss Julia Idcson who spoke of the literary side of Mr.

Lewis naid that he has been called the Eugene Field of the Southwest because of his love for and understanding; of children. Sterling. When Dr. Jacobs called oh Mr Lewis the poet said he had planned to tell them of his peace mission to Japan last summer but that now all thoughts of speech had left him and he could say little. "Of course, this Is the highest moraent of my life," Mr. Lewis said.

Then Mr. Lewis looked at the flowers that had been presented to him and Mrs. Lnwis nnd recited one of his poems on "Human Flowers," the kind that pop upon one's lap and smuggle their arms around one's neck. The prolonged applause forced him to recite two more poems. SUSPECTS ARE ARRESTED IN SIX HOLDUPS Special to The News.

Houston, Oct. suspects were questioned and then released by police today in connection with a series of robberies beginning Monday afternoon with a $30,000 diamond robbery and continuing through yesterday, when a sixth robbery wns reported. Charges of" robbery with firearms were filed against John M. Salmon, 35, of 1513 Yale, and Lee Tuggle, 38, of 215 Fox Apartments, In connection with the holdup Monday night of Wilton Williams, 1311 Clay, and Harry Bockelman, No. 7 Helsig Apartments.

T. K. Womack, manager of tho A. P. Store at 2304 Austin was tho sixth victim.

Womack waa arranging a window display in his store at 7 p. in. when a masked bandit entered the place and forced Womack to hnnd over $70 from the store register and his own pockets. "Sorry to have- to do this," the bandit said, according to Womack, "but I must have the money," The bandit backed away from the door, entered a dilapidated sedan and drove away. No arrests have been made in connection with five of the holdups.
