Berry has appeared in such films as "X-men," "Bulworth," "Why Do Fools Fall in Love" and "Boomerang." Benet's hits include "Spend My Life With You." Lee picks up yet another award TAIPEI, Taiwan — Taiwanese director Ang Lee has won just about every major award for his film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." But he said the government prize he received Thursday was for him "the most real." "This prize makes me feel as if I've got my two feet on the ground," the 47-year old director said as he received the $30,300 award. Lee is the first Taiwanese ever to win an Academy Award.. "Crouching Tiger" won Oscars this year for best foreign language film, art direction, cinematography and original score. 'Supremes' singer: Stop copycats BOSTON — Mary Wilson, a founder of "The Supremes," wants copycat musical groups to stop in the name of morality Wilson, 57, who has performed on stage for thousands, testified before eight lawmakers and an audience of about 150 onlookers in favor of a bill that would penalize copycat groups and their promoters for trying to trade on the originals. "They're really demeaning what we accomplished in life," Wilson told the Commerce and Labor Committee at hearing Wednesday The legislative panel is considering a bill requiring that tickets sold for performances by copycat groups clearly disclose that the featured act is not the original group. The bill also would impose a fine of between $1,000 and $5,000 for violations. WILSON T ADVICE Hutchinson news item gets stupid-crook award Dear Ann Landers: Consider this letter a payback for 45-plus years of great reading. I started to read your column in 1955 when I lived in ^ Chicago and continued to read it when I moved to Kansas 10 years later. I think the following qualifies as the stupid crook story of the yean No one could make this up. It was written by Dwight Jurgens and appeared in the Hutchinson (Kansas) News. The headline was, "Wrong House, Wrong Bed." — Joe the Schmo Dear Joe: Here's your contribution, for which I give you many thanks. You're right. No one could make this up: "Sometimes, it just doesn't pay to go to sleep. Or, maybe, wake up. Tuesday morning, a 42-year-old rural woman woke up to ANN LANDERS Creators Syndicate Inc. # find someone in her bed — a white male, asleep, dressed only in his underwear 'It wasn't anyone she knew,' the County Sheriff's captain said. The woman jumped out of bed, frisked through the man's clothes he left piled near her bed, grabbed his wallet out of his pants pocket and ran next door to call 911. "Deputies responded and rousted the 21-year-old home invader from what was apparently a deep, deep, alcohol-aided sleep. The man told deputies he'd been to a party earlier in the evening at a nearby residence. He said he met an old friend who told him he was welcome to spend the night at her house. "He said he knew where she lived, arid when he left the party, he went to her house, entered through the back door and went to sleep. Deputies told the man he was in the wrong house, in the wrong bed with the wrong woman and would have to go to jail for investigation of criminal trespassing. "He didn't understand that very well and kept saying, 'Why do I have to go to jail? I didn't do anything wrong or cause any trouble. All I did was go to sleep.' Reminded that he went to sleep in a house where the occupant didn't know him, the man was carted off to jail. He was later released on a $250 bond with a promise to appear in court later that morning. He failed to appear "Nobody suggested checking other courtrooms." Dear Ann Landers: I read with interest the letter from "Sandie in California," whose husband liked to crunch ice. She was concerned it would damage his teeth. You were so right to tell her it could also be a sign of iron deficiency My father-in-law also liked to crunch ice. It got so bad that he would sometimes chew on seven or eight cubes of ice, one after another, in an effort to satisfy his craving. Although it was noisy, we didn't pay much attention because it seemed harmless. All that crunching did indeed damage his teeth, but more important, after several years he began to feel poorly He eventually saw a doctor and discovered he had anemia. The doctor put him on vitamin supplements with iron, and it made all the difference in the world. As soon as his iron count was back to normal, he stopped chewing ice. He hasn't had a craving for it in years. "Sandie's" husband should see his doctor for a complete checkup, just to be sure. It could make a huge difference in his life. — Owensboro, Ky Dear Owensboro: I received more than 100 letters from readers with similar stories about crunching ice and an iron deficiency. A craving like this is your body's way of telling you something is wrong, folks. Pay attention. Write to Ann Landers at P.O. Box 11562, Chicago, IL 60611.
