Stock Market Ekes Out Only A Small Advance NEW YORK (AP) - The stock market eked out a small advance Monday, unable to maintain strong early gains in stepped-up trading. For most key issues, price fluctuations were small, but two glamour issues were sharply tower. Disney closed down ,9% at 99%, and Polaroid finished the day down 5 5 /s at 96%. . . Steels, utilities and airlines were strong. Rails were gener- ..ally lower. Analysts said the news background was generally favorable for a market advance, but bro­ kers said investors still were somewhat reluctant to make commitments until further details are known about Phase 2 of the new Nixon economic program. The Dow Jones average of 30 industrial stocks tacked on 1.68, closing at 895.66. Earlier in the session, the blue-chip indicator was up about 6 points. The New York Stock Exchange index of more than 1,300 common stocks advanced .14 to 54.80. by more than 4 cents a bushel on the Chicago Board of Trade Monday. Wheat futures declined more than 2 cents and corn and oats were down 1 cent. Soybean meal prices eased around 75 cents a ton and soybean oil closed around 10 points lower. Iced broiler futures advanced around 40 points at one time but closed some 20 points higher with good commercial support and short covering. Wheat futures were under selling pressure throughout, with commercial interests in the forefront among sellers. Buyers were scarce. Corn and oats trade was much ligher than in wheat and soybeans but buyers were just as wary. Late in the session new selling sent corn prices to around lows for the session. At the close, soybeans were down 4'A cents, November f ?V4; wheat was 2 cents lower, December 1.46 3 /i; corn was down around 3 ,i of a cent, De-! cember 1 1.12 3 A; and oats were!phoen1x e sii down around 1 cent, December 70 cents. A provision setting soybean reserves was deleted, li to 10, on a move by Rep. Wiley Mayne, R-Iowa. The bill would direct the secretary of Agriculture to maintain reserve inventories on "strategic storable agricultural commodities."
