SUCCESSFUL TEAM - This is Pomona High basketball team which won Franklin County Tournament an placed second in County League, second in district Class B tourney at Lebo and second in regional Class B tourney at Council Grove. Coach Gene Otis' Panthers, last year's state Class B champions, will meet Sylvia at 3:30 p.m. in the second game of the tournament. Portis will play unbeaten Corning at 2 p.m. The Panthers posted • 16-2 regular season record in winning both the Osage County Tournament and League crowns. They've lost Listen Back In Training MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP)Sonny Laston's sprained right knee, which forced a six-day postponement of his return title fight with Floyd Patterson, stood up under its first workout in 17 days and apparently is healed. Listen, 11 pounds over his fighting weight, looked sharp and strong as he whipped through what amounted to five rounds of work Sunday. He said he would have no trouble getting ready for Patterson April 10. Patterson came out of his second public workout at Tropical Park race track at 196, two over what he wants to weigh for the fight. Trainer Dan Florio said Patterson was reaching his fighting peak and would not spar again until Saturday. only to Pomona and Williamsburg, Class B members of the Franklin County League. In other Thursday preliminaries, Durham plays Rozel at 7: and Prairie View meets Dwight at 9. Semi-finals are at 7:30 and 9 p.m. Friday. Finals will be at 7:30 and 9 p.m. Saturday. TOPEKA (AP)-Wichita East will open defense of its state Class AA high school basketball crown against Shawnee Mission North in the state tournaments opening Thursday. Wyandotte, runner up to Wichita East last year and winner of the state title 5 of the last 6 years, opens the tournament in Wichita at 2 p.m. against Dodge City. Wyandotte is the only undefeated team in the Class AA meet. Parsons will play Wichita West in the other game in the upper bracket at 3:30 p.m. Sharing in the lower bracket with Wichita East and Shawnee Mission North are Hayden of Topeka and Salina.
