Sentinel Star, Wednesday, April 25, 1979 Skinner home's 'Mama Cat' gets service award By DOROTHY MADLEE Sentinel Star "Mama Cat" Cadogan, smiling the luminous, halfshy smile that has lighted the lives of innumerable homeless or abused children, Tuesday accepted Walt Disney World's $10,000 top community service award for her Tom Skinner Clubs Ine. home in Orlando.

It was one of 34 awards totaling $50,000 presented during a luncheon at the Contemporary Resort I Hotel for representatives of 254 Orange and Osceola county community organizations that had applied for the 1979 honors. In the past eight years Disney World has awarded $255,000 to 200 community service groups. The 550 guests rose in a storm of applause when retired Air Force Lt. Gen. John P.

Flynn, chairman of the committee of judges, announced that Mrs. Katherine Cadogan was the top 1979 winner. "This recipient has attacked the problem of unwanted and abused children by providing them with a loving and caring family-style home environment," Flynn said. "In so doing, this organization has succeeded where more traditional institutions have (she) instills upon these children a sense of hope and a chance for a new life." Special judges' awards of $2,500 each were won by Foster Grandparents' Program of Central Florida; Hospice Orlando: Junior Achievement of Orange County; and Russell Home for Atypical Children. Awards of each were made 11 categones: Cultural: Kissimmee- Cloud Jaycees Orlando Opera Company of the Florida and Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival.

Ed D. Pennington about $136 in pay, according to Major W.R. Kaufman, Highway Patrol deputy inspector. Pennington, transferred to Miami last month after 20 years in Kissimmee, was accused in an affidavit of driving his patrol car to various housing sites, including one in Orange County. The affivadit was sworn to by James Phillips an auxillary trooper who is suing Pennington in circuit court for allegedly defaulting on a promissory note.

Ron Legendre elected county bar president Sentinel Star KISSIMMEE Assistant Public Defender Ron Legendre was elected on Tuesday president of the ceola County Bar Association. He succeeds Jeff Miller, assistant state attorney. Legendre, 31, has been with the public defender's office since 1973. He was graduated from Florida State University law school and did his undergraduate work at Loyola University of the South. As bar president, he will convene the meetings, and serve as a liason between the county bar and the public.
